Running with the wolves

A phone call

We just stare at each other for a moment.. everything seems to fall away. But then my cellphone rang. I got such a fright I screamed.

"Ahhh"

He then got startled by my scream, jumping in a defensive stance, looking like he was ready to kill whatever frightened me. His eyes seemed to darken. It was a bit strange, and is he growling? or clearing his throat.... It must be allergies or something...who knows? I snapped out of my weird thought at the second and third ring and answered my phone, ignoring his weird behaviour.

"Hey" I answered.

" Where are you? I am starving!!"

"Oh , ja, sorry. I got distracted. I am on my way"

I hung up and look at mister soulmate again.

Mister soulmate is standing straight again, acting all normal. But his eyes still seemed dark as he not so causally asks

" So, who was that?"

Unfased by him as for some reason, I don't find him creepy with his weird behavior, I answer

"Ah, that my cousin he helped me move in. So we are going out for dinner. He lives here and now I am late and he is hungry. "

My face totally showing what a disaster it is that my cousin is hungry and how willing I am to feed him.

His eyes lighten up and he seems to smile at my dramatic reaction. Maybe I am weird too...

" Oh that nice. Then you better go."

"Yip, I probably should." I say lifting my shoulder as it a very unimportant thing, and we causally start strolling to my car. I go to unlock the car door.... But... He stops me and seems to growl as he says.

"Who's car is this?"

"Oh! it's my cousin why?" I say tilting my head a bit to the side at his weird question and actions.

He growling definitely growling and his eyes darken again. Well, that's new. First tingles then soulmate then growling. Yip he is a wierdo.... There always something wrong with the pretty ones. I sigh. That to bad that he pretty.. pretty crazy.. Now to handle this situation without something happening to me. His growling is annoying!! How am I suppose to understand growing!!!Ah I cant think with the growling.!

" Use your words! Now! I can't understand growling "

I say in a stern voice, I know I should of been scared, but for some odd reason, Mister soulmate doesn't scare me. I am just annoyed. Mister soulmate snaps out of his weird growling moment and looks at me weird. Then he hesitantly says...

"He a wolf"

"Who?" I say, still annoyed for not understanding what going on.

"Your cousin!"

"How is my cousin a wolf? He is really not that hairy."

He just look at me weird for my answer, slightly smirking

"And that means?" I say annoyed

"Why is your cousin a wolf and you not? " He asks as he rubbed that part of his nose right between his eyes.

"Cause I shave??! I dont know what you talking about." He was caught off guard and he seem less angry but hesitant. And kinda amused at my comments. But he becomes very serious.

"You cant leave"

My jaw drop open this guy though he was hot and nice and funny now just flipped to this growling weirdo.

"Yes I can" I say with my hands on my hips.

He pinch the top of his nose and takes a deep breath. He was physically calmer. When he open his eyes, they are lighter again. Note to self: dark eyes mean angry eyes.

"Okay, so your cousin is a wolf or more clearly, a werewolf " I am stunned into silence as I listen.

" I know this because I am a werewolf and you are a human. No, I am not a danger to you because you are my soul mate. I wasn't kidding about it. That is why you feel the tingles. It is one of the ways we know when we are meant for a person. Why I am telling you all this is because your cousin is a werewolf that doesn't belong to a pack and is considered a rogue. They are normally very dangerous to a pack. I am part of the pack from this town and I can't let my mate go alone to meet a rogue, even if it is family. Please understand I need to protect you ".

I just stared at him. All of this was a lot to take in. Also, how is my cousin be werewolf and how have a never noticed? Okay, fine. He has lived in another town all his life..... but family holidays. Was I really so unobserved? Mister soulmate stare at me. Looking at my face for any clues to what I am thinking. But you can read everything on my face . He sees I am angry and can't understand why.

I grab my phone and phone my cousin. He answered on the first ring.

"You here?"

"YOU ARE A WEREWOLF???? And you didnt tell me!!! What happened to no secret?"

"Who told you? Kay, who with you? Are you okay ? What happened? Where are you? " he sounded worried.

Mister soulmate was watching me . He looks kinda happy that I believe him.... But he is listening very carefully to what was happening.

"Still at the trails where you told me to go. I run into a guy that says he my soulmate and werewolf but say that you are a werewolf too. Wouldn't let me go home to you because you are a rogue or something. So here is the question, is this real or is it time I call 911?"

He sigh and is for some reason much calmer.

"So kay. This is all real. I am on my way to meet you at the trails . And explain everything. If he says he is your soulmate and werewolf, he won't hurt you. Please stay there. Okay! Don't move! Be there soon!" And he hungs up.

I just look at the phone . Then I look at mister soulmate. He seems more relax.

"So this is real?"

"Jip, it real. "

"Okay. Oh uummhh my cousin on the way."

"I heard . "

" This a bit wierd. You know. Is this why you lacking proper running gear and only wearing shorts? Also, why you popped out of nowhere? Oh and the growling?"

"Yes" and he smiled at my questions ..

Then he turns abruptly and stood infront of me. It look like he trying to protect me from something... I couldnt see what, till a brown wolf comes running into the clearly infront for us. Mister soulmate started growling. But I kept my eyes on the brown wolf that stopped and shifted into.... my cousin Luke.

"Luke!" I shout

I try to walk to him. But mister soulmate stops me. Luke growls slightly.

"Hey , he my cousin " I say sternly

"He a rouge" he reply without taking his eyes off Luke.

"I dont know what that means! But family comes first!!" I look at him angrily. He looks torn but allows me to pass, but follows closely as I approach my cousin. I greet him with a hug and I hear growling from mister soulmate . I ignore it but smack Luke on the head. Mister soulmate chuckles at this.

"Hey" he shouts

"You didnt tell me anything!!"

" Hey, I am sorry. I never knew you would find out. "

"So are you just sorry you got caught?"

"I am not allowed to tell you. Only if the human is your mate are you allowed to tell them about werewolves. Like mister soulmate over there did to you. "

"Okay, so what exactly is a werewolf mate?"

Mister soulmate answers this one

" It's your other half, you wait for all your life if you must. You feel incomplete without them and they complete you as they are everything you are not. They your perfect other half. There is a bond that you feel. Like the tingles. To let you know you found your half. You can't be with anyone else. You don't want to be with anyone else. It is a everlasting love. So from the moment I saw you I knew I already loved you." With that he stared into my eyes with such intensity I knew I believed him.

My cousin coughs and laughs when we look at him.

" So cuz, you finally met prince charming. Just the hairier version " he laughs at his own joke and I cant help but laugh. To think I would physically run into the love of my life. How weird is that?

Mister soulmate seems almost offended but starts chuckling too.

But then he became all serious.

"But , you are a rogue", he glares at Luke.

"Chill man, I just moved here with Kay from my old pack . I am meeting your alpha tomorrow to join the pack. My name is Luck Williams from Crescent Moon pack" Mister soulmate physically relaxed, which makes me relax . It weird , I wonder if it is a mate thing.

"Anyway, I am hungry. How about me and Kay retiring for the night and she process everything and then, tomorrow after work, I will bring her with me to the pack to meet your Alpha.. Deal?"

Luke suggests, but Mister Soulmate is hesitant but sighs and agrees. Then he turns to hug me and seems to tuck his head into my neck. I almost melt in his arms as I feel tingles everywhere we are touching. After a few minutes, he reluctantly releases me. We say our goodbyes and promise to meet tomorrow.

Going home, I bombarded Luke with hundreds of questions.
