The estate was obscene.
That was the only word Aria could think of.
The house sat behind enormous iron gates, surrounded by manicured gardens and towering trees. Beyond it stretched a private beach.
The driveway alone was longer than the street where she lived.
Aria stepped out of the car.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Damian stood at the entrance.
“You’ll get used to it.”
“I don’t think anyone gets used to this.”
“You will.”
He turned toward the house.
She followed.
Inside, everything was breathtaking.
Floor-to-ceiling windows.
Polished stone.
Massive fireplaces.
Art that probably cost more than she’d earn in ten lifetimes.
And yet Damian barely seemed to notice any of it.
He was watching her.
“You’re staring.”
“So are you.”
“I have a reason.”
“What reason?”
“I haven’t decided yet.”
Aria’s cheeks warmed.
He walked past her.
“Your room is upstairs.”
“My room?”
“Suite.”
“Of course.”
He glanced over his shoulder.
“Something wrong?”
“No. I’m just trying to understand what planet rich people live on.”
His lips curved.
“Apparently the same one you do.”
She laughed.
And Damian stopped walking.
The sound seemed to catch him off guard.
His eyes softened.
Aria suddenly became aware of how close they were.
The air changed.
Neither moved.
His gaze dropped to her lips.
Her breath caught.
Then Damian stepped back.
“Get settled.”
He walked away.
Aria watched him disappear.
Her hand pressed against her chest.
“What is wrong with me?”
Because she had felt it.
That spark.
That dangerous pull.
And judging by the look in his eyes…
Damian had felt it too.
