A faint smile ghosted his lips. “The sea was beautiful last night.”
“It almost killed you.”
He looked past her, toward the rain-soaked window. “Maybe that’s what beauty is.”
She took his hand. “Don’t do this. Not now.”
“I painted one last thing,” he murmured. “It’s in the studio. You’ll find it.”
Tears welled in her eyes. “Aarav, please.”
He shook his head weakly. “You said love transforms. Maybe this is what it becomes.”
The heart monitor stuttered. The storm outside roared back to life.
She pressed her forehead to his, whispering,
> “Then promise me—when it rains again, you’ll remember I stayed.”
He tried to answer, but the words drowned in the sound of thunder.

Later that evening, Mira found the painting. It stood alone in the ruined studio, covered with a white cloth.
When she pulled it free, she gasped.

The two works now hang side by side at the Jehangir Art Gallery, their colors bleeding into each other whenever humidity rises.
Locals say if you stand there during monsoon and listen closely, you can hear it—the faint echo of a man’s brushstroke, a woman’s laughter, and the sea’s endless applause.
