**Donnie** My alarm clock blared loudly and I hit it on the head to get it to stop. It was 6am and I had to get ready for work but I didn't feel like it at all since today will be like every other day. Dress up, look nice, meet with clients, walk guests and try with all my might to get Kira to go out for dinner with me but will be rendered speechless when I see her. I groaned as I stared at my ceiling I'm dismay. I had had girlfriends in the past years. Ladies I had liked, the ones I had crushed on but none of them made me feel this crazy enough to stay up at night thinking about them. Before Kira, I had never felt this strongly attracted to anyone and it was beginning to border on obsession because I kept thinking about her non-stop so much so that i had to ask my mother to help me out. I groaned as I rinsed my mouth in the sink and stared at myself in the mirror. I didn't get it at all. Why wasn't she attracted to me? I mean, not that if she wasn't I'd hate her or whatever but why didn't she even spare me a glance? Why? The first time my mother introduced us was a year ago at a function being held at our resort where top dignitaries were gathered. She had on a sea green dress that matched her eyes and she looked absolutely stunning, like she wasn't human. She was smart and she knew all the right jokes and to top it all up, she was breathtakingly beautiful. I thought that day I'd never see her again then Mum introduced her to the board of trustees and made her the Director of Operations of a very critical department and I knew she had made a big impression on my mother for her to give her such a position but the whole time, she wouldn't look at me, her eyes always looking over my head as I tried in vain to catch her gaze. I was attractive too. At least the girls seemed to think so. Grey eyes. Black hair. Chiseled jaw. Long lashes. And I was a towering 6ft 5" too. The only person who didn't find me appealing was Kira and I just didn't understand why. The way she looked at me, like I was a child, someone she'd want to protect was something I couldn't quite fathom even though the last time I checked, she was the same age as me. As I got ready to drive off to work, I made a firm decision in mind that I would get her to look at me by all means. I'd take that bold step to her office and ask her to go out to dinner with me and not bat an eyelid or become tongue tied at her presence. No. I would talk to her like a man and I'd have a drink with her and we would talk and i- My phone rang. It was mother. "Mom?" "Tell me you're on your way to work." "I am on my way to work." I said as I turned at an intersection. The traffic light was up ahead. "Good. That's good. There's been a slight problem at the resort. It looks like a customer was found unconscious in her tub, apparently, she was trying to commit suicide by slashing her wrists but luckily, Evvie found her when she was doing her rounds with the staff." Evvie Stork. The resort manager who also happened to be close buddies with Kira and she was older than her, yet I could never understand the dynamic their relationship. "Is the customer alive or she's unconscious?" "That's what I need you to find out for me when you get there. I'll be a little late because I have to follow Peggy to Dove's piano recital at her school today." Peggy was my oldest sister and Dove was her lovely daughter. "Of course, I'll keep you posted." "Please do, D.D. And make sure the news stays undercover, we don't want our rivals getting a hold of this information and using it to their advantage okay?" "Okay." "You'll have to work with Lance on that, he's the head of HR and he handles most of the customers personal information." I groaned. I didn't like Lance Temple. It was a mutual feeling of dislike. "Okay mum, will do." She hung up. I came to the traffic light and halted at the red light, tapping nervously on the steering wheel. Lancelot 'Lance' Temple. Another of Kira's friends that was older and yet seemed to be close to her. Their closeness made me think they were in a relationship because of how he treated other women around him: with a certain degree of coldness, one that was enough to freeze a fish. Lance was the definition of cold. Cold. Brusque. Handsome. I shook my head that the word Handsome. I had noticed it too like the way the ladies had noticed and were fawning over him. At least, I had something I could hold onto in case something came up between us. His handsome face could help me later. The green light came on and I started to move when a power bike came out of nowhere and passed in front of me. I matched my brakes suddenly, my tires screeching to a halt. The bike had driven away with the rider but there was something strange about the rider. Or was it my eyes playing strange tricks on me? Or my mind? Did I imagine it? Was it because of the movie I sat up all night watching till about 2am this morning that I was able to conjure such an image in my head? I shook my head and started driving again, going slowly this time, looking at my rearview mirror. There was no way that was real. I could have sworn I saw a fin.
