Midnight Calling

Chapter Four

"Sandra, do you know why we have called you here today?" Tarvas asked.

"Uh, no I can't say that I do sir."

"We promise not to take up too much of your time as we know that a liaison is always on the move. Especially one as young as yourself."

She makes me sound like a child, I’m twenty-four for goddess sake.

Nerifir continued; "As you are aware the Vampire King, Kaene Nightingale, would like to strike up negotionations & receive a seat on the council. We want to be able to accept this offer heartily but we need you to pour over the forms and verify that all is as it should be. No underlying clauses you see."

Sentori interjected, "This will not be an easy mission for you Sandra. There are many things that you have yet to find out about yourself that you will learn on the way. We will be sending some warriors with you from the closest boarders to the vampire kingdom."

"Oh no sir, that won't be necessary! I have handled similar missions without issue before and have never needed an escort." I tried to reason with the council.

"Our word is law. This is for your protection and the protection of anyone that may return with you." Rumbled Starblaze.

"Yes council. I don't understand the secrecy or caution but I am willing to follow along... for now." I tacked on at the end with a slight raise to my eyebrow.

Sentori glanced at me sternly. "Child, you may not have an inner wolf for me to put in place but you are still a member of the Pack. You will mind your elders and be safe on this journey.” Goddess help her...

Those whispered words drifted in my mind as I nodded to the council. They were hiding something and I would find out what it was even if I died trying. Although I really hope I didn't, Loki would miss me.

Ugh he just had to bring up the fact that I didn't have a wolf to keep me safe. Well I didn't need one. Being raised by the Pack allowed me to study all of the fighting styles I could- Boxing, Judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Krav Maga... you name it and I've mastered it. I was one of the few in the area that could boast such a feat. Another reason why I wondered if the warriors were really needed.

Hmmm, we shall see. "Who are the warriors that will be traveling with me?"

Harinburg took a deep breath. "You will be traveling with Seamus O'Malley and Kyenric Nerifir."

My eyes widened fractionally. The brothers of two council members. This was indeed going to be an interesting journey.

"Thank you council. Unless there is anything else, I will take my leave so that I can prepare to leave by nightfall."

"That will be all- Goddess watch over you Ms. Owens." Evans stated with a glimmer in her eyes.

I walk out of the hall, thoughts swirling around.

Why were they so tight lipped about this mission? What do I need to learn about myself that I haven't already? Ughhhh more questions and no answers in sight.
