Karan had his hands around Lilith’s back and Lilith’s head was rested on his chest. They were sitting on the floor cushion. Lilith’s eyes were tired from crying. She was sniffling from continuous crying. Her gasping and forcible exhales was quiet audible. Karan could feel her shuddering in his arms. He sighed in displeasure and tightened his arms around her as they were seated on the floor in the sitting room. Karan I am sorry that I had to call you all the way from Texas to this miserable place. I panicked and I didn’t know what to do. I am so scared Karan!” “Don’t worry princess, it’s my duty, trust me!” she exhaled and said; You are wrong it’s not a duty, you are just an amazing human being, the best, best friend that Karma must have sent to watch over me… and I am lucky to have you” he smiled and wagged his head and said to himself mentally. ‘You have no idea Princess that this is indeed a duty’ the place was silent before he asked her; “Do you have any food in the house I am starving” she wiped her tears and said “No I don’t! I think I only have snacks” he stood up and extended his hands to her. She asked him confused by his gestures; “What is it?” she asked with raised browse as she waits for his reply “Let’s go get some food!” he said “NO!” she answered him instantly, with a frightened look “Why!” he asked her back without wasting any time. “I don’t want to meet with that man ever again, I am scared for what he might do to me and most especially what the witches might do to me if they capture me again.” He smiled and asked “Do you want to spend the rest of your life locked away just because of one man and besides if he wants to get you, there’s nothing that can stand in his way from all indications, don’t you agree with me?” “Yes!... but…” she was skeptical and her eyes were looking sideways, she was trying to look for a way to escape the idea of leaving her apartment. “No buts come with me” he smiled and dragged her out of the building.       The streets were silent although there were people walking to and fro coming from town. The beautiful lightings from the café, eateries, supermarkets, shops and bars made the street look like a scene from a romantic movie. There were cute little girls selling flowers and balloons on the streets which made it even more relaxing for Lilith, although every time she calmed her nerves the thought of Lucian hanging around somewhere in the dark frightened her more. When she could no longer take her unstable emotion she blurted out in fear; “I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to leave my apartment!... even though I am with you I am still frightened to my bones” “Have I ever allowed any harm come your way when you are with me?” the place grew silent Lilith couldn’t reply him for she knew only one person in her life who stood up for her despite the odds. Looking at him she apologized; “I am sorry bestie!” he drew her even closer to him and said; “There is never an apology between besties only hugs” as they continued walking a little girl came and hand Lilith a red rose flower which still had thorns around it, and she said in a honeyed tone; “Don’t cry just smile!” she took the flower from the little girl puzzled and said in an unsure tone; “Thank you?” the little girl smiled and ran off. She didn’t say a word about what had happened even though she was baffled by a little girl giving her flower. As they were about to enter an eatery another little girl came and handed her two red roses with thorns around them again. The flowers were smelling nice she ignored the thorns this time around and raised it to the tip of her nose and took a heave of the scent. It smelt nostalgic she thought. The little girl looking at her said; “Your smile is priceless just try!” this time around Karan turned his beautiful grey eyes to her and said; “It seems to me like you are popular here!” he had a cheeky smile on his face, he was trying to get her worried again but surprisingly she smiled and said; “These little girls are sweet, they made me feel calm with their sweet gestures.” The little girl waved at her and went away. “So you are not tensed again?” he asked her abruptly with a bit of excitement. “Not exactly but I suddenly feel like letting go of things too great for my mind to comprehend… I still don’t like that man though.” Karan smiled and opened the door, she smiled back at him and as she was about to enter she bumped into a tall figure and she felt a sudden cold run down from her chest to her feet, looking up she saw Lucian.  She was left agape at his sight. He acted unfazed by her presence, he simply smiled at her and walked away casually like she was a stranger to him. She couldn’t move again; she was too shocked to move a muscle. Standing still in place she clutched on the stems of the roses harder. The thorns pierced through her flesh and her blood began to drop to the floor. Karan raised his brows at the sight of her dripping blood, he yelped instantly and turned to look around him.  Almost all the people around Lilith turned to look at her. The smell of her blood was pleasing and enticing to all the vampires. Lucian was only two feet away from her when he inhaled the sweet scent of her blood. He noticed from looking around that all the vampires had their hungry eyes on her before he could say cover that wound right away the vampires were rushing for her. Karan noticed the speed of the vampires charging towards her, he turned instantly to help her but before he could grasp her, Lucian moved out of reflexes like a flash of lightening and grasped her around the waist, he spread out his wings and took off with her into the sky. She was still shocked and unmoving while in his arms. Back at the eatery Karan cussed mentally at the turn of events. He face-palmed himself and said; “Now that’s what they call tough love and I am so f**ked man what on earth am I going to do now?” he walked into the eatery casually and sat down lazily on the arm chair.  He ordered for food and waited in silence as he observed his environment. The Vampires were back to normal, like nothing ever happened and every other activity was running as usual.  Lucian landed on a tall tree on his feet with her in his arms effortlessly and said in a silvery voice; “If you would let me, I can make your hand feel better.” His sea green eyes were fixated on her amber eyes, seeking for her permission but she was speechless and her heart was beating loudly. She could hear her own heart beats. She extended her hands without saying a word to him she was shuddering. She was frightened and lost in her thoughts; ‘Who would save me now? I was not afraid of those vampires that were about to attack me some moments ago but I am afraid of this man holding me in his arms. Yes, I am afraid of a man that steals my memories without my consent when it’s my life. She admitted to herself at that point of her growing fear. She raised her eyes with all the might she could muster up to look into his. She helped herself down from his hands and said; “I am not afraid of who you are because believe it or not we all have demons living inside us” she pushed him away from her and said; “What I am afraid of is this insecure man standing before me. It took me a good part of my life to find my confidence, to finally love myself and I can’t just let an uncertain person, a man with no confidence take it all away from me. People often say that; ‘no matter how much suffering you went through, you never wanted to let go of those memories’ it’s no doubt the truth, because I treasure every moment in my life as a gift. I will never let you have my memories so before you even think to steal this little memory I have made no longer than a moment ago I will rather die with it than to let you have it.”  She jumped off the tall tree without thinking twice with her eyes closed. Lucian stood still on the big branch of the tree and watched her as she was falling, she didn’t even scream nor utter a word, her eyes closed and she looked peaceful. On the other hand, his heart was brewing with an unfamiliar pain, he wanted to cry to punch something or somebody, the lower she got the more fear and hurt grew inside him.
