Stripped of its legal verbiage, the first long paragraph of the contract seemed to say that Laurel Byrd, the party of the second part, agreed to collaborate with Earl Falkoner, the party of the first part, in the writing of a play for the sum of $250 when the play had been completed to the satisfaction of the party of the first part, plus a one-sixth interest in the play. She closed her eyes to do a bit of mental arithmetic and came to the conclusion that she and Jeff and Woody together had a half interest in the script. Falkoner, then, had the other half.
