THE NEXT DAY
“It stinks! Oh my gosh!” Tessa exclaimed, holding a panty that fell out of the clothes she was packing.
“That's Saturday for you. You have to get used to it, Tess.” Gwen chuckled.
Tessa scrunched up her face in irritation. She sighed and dropped the clothes on the floor, then went to get water from the tap. Reaching the tap, she met a long line and facepalmed.
“We should have come earlier,” Gwen said.
Tessa sighed. If someone had told her that this was what her life would become, she wouldn't have believed it. While at her pack, she lived a life of pleasure, got everything she wanted because her father was a Beta to the Alpha, but everything changed when her father was framed, and they lost everything. Not only that, they were banished from the pack and went into exile, leading to the death of her parents. Now, she was a slave in another pack and had to put up with whatever s**t they throw at her.
“Hey, I heard the Alpha is coming to supervise the slaves today.” Gwen beamed.
Tessa didn't seem interested. All she wanted was to get out of here; something that wouldn't happen soon.
****
Damien stepped out of the castle and exhaled with a smile. The weather was nice; good enough for a walk around the pack.
It'd been long since he took a walk. There have been a lot to take care of these past days, giving him no time for relaxation at all. He would use the spare time he had today to stroll a little. He strained his neck, looking for Roman.
“He better not be with those stupid books of his again, else?” Damien balled his fists. He disliked his brother's character to the core. The gentleman preferred books to sparring. Like, who the hell does that?
“Damien!” Connor, his beta and best friend, called as he walked to where he stood. When he got to him, he bowed.
“What's wrong?” Damien asked.
Connor brought out a piece of paper and opened it.
“Another letter?” Damien sighed.
“Yes, and they said that they're coming with full force this time around. They use you not having a Luna as an opportunity to threaten us.” Connor replied.
“Don't they dread what I am capable of? What the hell!” Damien exclaimed. He hated their guts. Twilight Pack had been the most feared Pack in all werewolf history, thanks to his father's efforts and his as well. Packs with brave Alphas were terrified by them. Why would packs emerge from nowhere and dare him? It was brainless!
“But, won't you consider this mate issue?” Connor asked.
Damien glared at him. “Don't you ever mention that to me again. You know the reason I don't want a mate, everybody does.” He snapped, pain evident in his face.
“You can still give it a try. The moon goddess wouldn't be so cruel to allow the same thing to repeat itself,” Connor said.
“I don't want to talk about this. Just place more soldiers at the borders,” He said.
“We have, but they're determined to penetrate.” Connor replied.
“Get me my car keys, I need to see Iris.” He said and started walking away.
“What about the slaves? You're supposed to supervise them today.” Connor pointed out.
“Today is laundry day, Connor. That place stinks like hell; totally not for my kind of person. You'll supervise them on my behalf,” Damien said without turning back and walked away.
Connor sighed and went to get the car keys. He would have escorted the Alpha, but Damien was stubborn; always insisting that he could go on his own.
Damien was already at the garage when Connor came with the car keys.
“Are you sure you don't need an escort?” Connor asked as he gave him the keys.
Damien collected them. “Yes,” He answered and opened the car door. “Make sure you give me an update about the supervision when I return.”
Connor sighed. “Okay. Be careful!”
“You're not my mum.” Damien turned the car on and drove off.
Connor chuckled. “A simple “thank you” would have been fine.” He muttered and glanced at the letter in his hands.
It seemed those packs sending threat letters didn't know who they were. He would make sure they don't succeed in their attacks. On the other hand, he was worried about Damien. He just wished things would be resolved with him in no time.
****
Damien kept thinking about the threats as he drove to Iris's abode. He wasn't the type of person to get moved by mere threats, but why does this particular one make the hair on his skin stand? Or was it because it had something to do with him getting a Luna? He didn't want a Luna, and he would never have one.
He arrived at Iris's place and parked the car, then got down. He wondered why this place looked spookier than when he last visited? Statues of gargoyles were on the rooftop, while vultures circled the air. Taking a step forward, he strode past some strange-looking plants at his side.
'Maybe they're for her potions.' He thought.
When he got to the door, he knocked and the door was opened by one of her apprentices.
“Alpha!” She exclaimed and bowed, giving him space to enter.
As he entered, he saw Iris on the floor, meditating.
“Iris, we need to talk. It's urgent,” He said.
Iris didn't answer him for some seconds before snapping her eyes open. “Why don't you sit down first, Alpha?” She gestured to the couch in front of her.
Damien reluctantly sat down. “There is a problem and_”
“Save your breath, Alpha. The answer is closer than you think,” She said calmly.
“I don't see any answers. The threats are becoming much worse.” He lamented.
“I don't know you as someone who gets moved by mere threats.” She stole a glance at him before shutting her eyes again.
“This one doesn't sound like a mere threat. They're using the fact that I have no Luna against me.” He said.
Iris chuckled. “That is why I said the answer is closer than you think. Alpha Damien, we must perform the mating ceremony, so you can find your mate and make her your Luna.”
Immediately those words left her mouth, Damien's countenance changed.
“I don't want a mate!”
