Chapter 5
Swish, swish, swish. Olive walked through the seventh grade wing toward her locker as her skirt swirled around her legs. She made her way through a sea of hungry seventh graders at the pace of a snail. Olive felt feminine and graceful, which was a new feeling for her. She tried to forget the comment Jacey had made about her being a hippie freak from the 70’s. Olive put her backpack in her locker, taking out her lunch first.
“Hey Mash,” she said, addressing Franny, Jason, Bobby, and Audrey who were seated at their table. “What’s new?”
“Well,” Bobby said, “I made captain of the Academic Decathlon team for our city. For Junior High they only have city teams, not individual school teams.”
