There were sports on campus the following day. I dressed up in my beautiful dress and went to campus. I had taken my sportswear with me to change into for the sports. I was on the female volleyball team while Manu was on the female basketball team. It was an amazing sports day on campus, and the campus was filled with activities. After the sports were over, I went to freshen up and change back into my dress. I had kept my dress in a locker, but when I came out of the bathroom, it was nowhere to be found. I searched and even asked other girls, but no one seemed to know where my dress was. I had wrapped a towel around my body, with my hair still wet. While searching, I found my dress on the basketball court floor.
“Oh, my God!” I exclaimed, moving closer to my dress. “Who the heck brought my dress down here?” I said, pissed off.
As I bent down to pick up my dress, I heard a voice laughing from behind. I turned to look in that direction. There, I saw Sidd.
“So you were behind all this? Have you lost your mind, Sidd?” I snapped, burning with anger.
“Look at yourself now, Miss Pretty. You’re so shameless. You're exposed, hope you know that,” he mocked with a wicked grin.
“I see you've gone bananas!” My fists were clenched beside me. “You’ve got no manners, you know that? Anyways, laugh all you want, but watch out for me. This isn’t over yet,” I threatened and stormed off furiously. I heard him still laughing and calling me names. I felt a little embarrassed, but I meant what I said.
I started thinking of what to do to retaliate for what he did to me.
The next day, I went to campus with a plan. I asked Manu to help me, and she reluctantly agreed. When I noticed Sidd walking alone in the hallway, Manu and I, from opposite rooms, pulled a thin wire across, and he tripped in front of the students. The students snickered at him. I couldn’t help but laugh too. I bet he felt embarrassed and left campus almost immediately. I felt relieved, but I knew that wasn’t the end. I knew I should be expecting more from him.
On this day, I was in the library, my face glued to my book as I tried to concentrate on my studies. Sidd came along. I didn’t bother glancing at him. I was engrossed in the book in front of me. He moved closer and sat on the chair beside me. He placed a book in front of him and opened a page.
“Once upon a time!” Sidd began loudly. I looked around the library. We were the only ones there. I glanced at him. He was trying to piss me off. I faced the book in front of me again.
“I was seated with a bookworm. Not that she’s beautiful, but she’s annoying. She dreams of becoming Albert Einstein’s mate in the future. Funny, right?” he continued. Was that supposed to be in the book he was reading? I looked at him with a frown.
“Sidd, I’m trying to focus here. What are you doing?” I asked, annoyed.
“Are you blind, Rani?” he shot back. “Can’t you see I’m reading?”
“Are you a clown, Sidd? Who reads like that?” I retorted.
“If it disturbs you, then excuse me. You can read some other time.”
“You’re crazy, Sidd. It’s obvious you’ve got nothing to do, so please leave,” I demanded.
“Now she doesn’t want to be Albert Einstein’s mate but Elon Musk’s. She’s acting like a confused alien from Mars,” he continued loudly, feigning concentration on the book in his hand.
“Argh! I hate you!” I groaned, standing up to leave. I strapped my backpack over one shoulder and picked up my phone. As I turned to leave, Sidd flung the book he was holding in front of me. I stumbled over it and fell to my knees.
“Ouch!” I exclaimed, the pain shooting to my head.
Sidd stood up, laughing. “Looks like someone missed her step,” he mocked, coming over to pick up the book.
I stood up, glaring at him. It felt as though my knees were on fire, and tears threatened to fall out.
“Now she’s leaving Elon Musk for a desperate hunter chasing her prey,” he continued reading while walking out.
I stood there seething with anger. Sidd was a psychopath. Maybe he got his revenge for what happened last time. Now I couldn’t even focus on reading anymore.
“Argh! Damn it!” I cried, frustrated, and left the library. I would still retaliate.
Later in the day, I sneaked into the campus computer lab. Sidd was there, working on a computer. I had heard he was preparing for a presentation for graduation day. I couldn’t wait to mess it up. I hid at the entrance, watching him as he typed. I waited for the right opportunity to make him confused.
I stood there waiting for him to at least step away. He continued working, and I was about to give up when he finally stood to get a sheet of paper. I guessed he was about to print something. I took the chance, tiptoed to his computer, erased the file, and changed the settings to a foreign language. Then I hurried back to the entrance.
I watched as Sidd returned to the computer. He sat down and was faced with a blank screen in a complicated language. I couldn’t wait to laugh.
“Oh, God! How come? Who did this?” he exclaimed, trying to fix it. But how could he understand the language? Undo meant what in Russian? I chuckled inwardly. Even shortcuts wouldn’t help him. He stood up and hit the desk in frustration.
“Ta-da! Looks like someone is confused!” I teased, walking into the lab. “What happened, Sidd? Don’t you know Russian?” I mocked, then giggled.
“You’re behind this, aren't you?” he yelled, angry or frustrated.
“What if I am, what are you going to do about it?”
“What is your problem, Rani? You know this is important. Do you have to mess with everything?”
“Mess? Did I mess with anything? Don’t you know reading is also important when you distracted me?” I shot back.
“You’re such a devil’s advocate. Get out of my way!” he said angrily, pushing past me and storming out.
I kept laughing. Whatever he planned to do next didn’t matter to me. For now, I was just enjoying the fun.
