The Mistake

What do you do when you accidentally marry a girl you weren't ever meant to marry. I knew nothing about this girl and she wasn't someone I would ever go out with and now i'm stuck with her for six months and she refuses to talk to me. She was working in a diner so i showed up at her work.

"What can I get you?" She says with her back to me

"We need to talk" I say

She spins around and her eyes widen seeing me.

"About what?" She says

"Our marriage. I looked into the annulment but we have to live together for a year before that can happen." I tell her

"No way" She says

"Well let me sweeten the deal" I say pulling out my checkbook

I write out a $100,000 check and slide it over to her. SHe picks it up and looks at it and sighs.

"what is this?" She asks

"Isn't it what you wanted?" I ask confused

"I am not a charity case. Get out" She says ripping up the check and throwing it in the trash

I was stunned and angry.

"What the hell is wrong with you? That is exactly what you wanted" I snap at her

Her eyes feel with tears and she turns her back to me.

"get out right now" A man snaps walking towards me

"What?" I say confused

"You will not speak her to that way. Get out." He yells

All eyes turn towards us and I sigh and leave. I was so confused on what just happened. I decided to catch her after work so I sat outside til she was leaving. She jumped in her car and drove towards a hospital. I watched her walk in and I followed her. She entered a room and I snuck up looking in.

"Hey sweetheart. How you doing today?" She asks kissing someone on the cheek

"I'm ok." A child says

"And how did today go? Sorry I couldn't be here I had to work" She says

"It was good. I'm tired though" The child says

"I'm sorry Cassi" She whispers to the small child

"Aunt Dani it's not your fault." The child says

"But it feels like it. I hate that your in here. i'm trying my best I promise" She tells the girl

"I know Aunt Dani. Thank you" The child says

It gets quiet and I'm startled when she bumps into me.

"What the actual f**k are you doing here?" She snarls at me

Once again I was floored at how she was talking to me.

"I wanted to talk. The nurse said you come this way" I say

"We have nothing to talk about" She says and walks to the nurses desk

"Danielle darlin how you doing?" A nurse ask

"Fine Nan. How's my girl doing?" She asks

"She is doing better. She should be able to go home tomorrow" The nurse says

I see her whole body tense and I have to know what's going on.

"That's great. She is going to b excited" Dani says smiling

"Go tell her goodnight. Time's up honey" The nurse says

"Thanks Nan" She says and walks past me and back in the room

She comes out ten minutes later and i follow he4r outside.

"Give me a hour and if you don't like what i have to say then I will leave and I will take care of this" I tell her

"One hour. I need to shower and get to bed I have class tomorrow" She says sighing in defeat

"come on you can come to my place" I tell her

She nods not giving me attitude so I know she's tired. I watch her follow me to my house and when we get in i could tell she was dead on her feet.

"What time do you have class?" I ask

"9" She mumbles

I hum and take a seat and text my maid to bring us some dinner. About ten minutes later she comes in placing everything down and leaves.

"Come on and have something to eat while we chat" I tell her

She picks up a plate and eats in silence. Once she was done she was struggling to stay away.

"OK here is the deal move in here for a year. If you do i will pay you one million dollars for your time and whatever is going on with the child in the hospital" I tell her

"I can't" She says to me in all seriousness

"Why not?" I ask

"Because Cassandra is my responsibility. I am her guardian. And no do not ask" She tells me sternly

"Move in here and i'll provide everything plus pay you at the end of this and I will tell everyone we adopted since you can't get pregnant" I tell her

She sucks in a breath and stares at the wall for a few minutes.

"Fine" She mumbles

"Come I'll show you to your room" I say standing

She follows after me and I lead her to a room near mine. I push the door open and she walks in and sighs.

"Decorate it how you want" I tell her

"No need" She says kicking off her shoes and socks

She sits down rubbing her feet and sighs.

"Well i'll leave you to it." I say

I leave closing the door and sigh and head to my room. My alarm went off at 7 this next morning so I got up and got ready and headed downstairs. I thought I'd request breakfast before waking her but I was stunned when I walked in and found her already sitting down eating.

"I was just about to wake you" i say

"I set my alarm. I get up at this time every morning" She says and goes back to her mug

I sat down and had my breakfast when she stood she was wearing a short dress and I cleared my throat.

"What?" she says

"Nothing" I say

"Sure. Well i'm off to class and then I gotta go pick up Cassi." She says

"What time i can meet you there" i say

"No. I need to talk to her and explain everything to her before bringing her hear. I left a list on my bedside table. I need everything on it before I get back tonight" She tells me sternly

"Alright i'll get it done. Or I could hire someone" I say

"No. Ryan if this is going to work then i don't want other people in my business. Do this yourself. I left a list and instructions for everything. shouldn't be hard" She says

"Then skip class today and go with me" I say

"I can't I have a test. But I can skip my second class. I can meet you back here in two hours" She says

Dani's POV

"Alright that works. I can work from here til you get back" He tells m e

"Alright." I say and leave

By time I was done with my test I was exhausted when i pulled back up to his house. When I got inside he was yelling at someone in his office. I walked in and stopped when I seen a woman there.

"Dani" He says

"Ryan we have to go" I say

"Alright. Natalie get out" He snarls

"Who are you?" She sneers at me

"I'm his wife" I snap at her

Her eyes widen and she shrinks down a bit.

"What?" She whispers

"You heard me now get the f**k out we have things to do" I snarl

She scurries out and when i look at Ryan he was looking at me amused.

"What?" I snap

"Nothing just looking" He says

"Well stop looking and lets go. I have to pick Cassi up in four hours" I say

He nods and stands and I look at him in a suit and I walk into his room and go in his closet and look around. I pull out some jeans and a nice shirt and some shoes and walk out handing them to him.

"Put them on and don't complain. I need you to be normal around Cassi" I tell him

"Very well" He says going into the bathroom

He comes back changed and I relax.

"Do you approve your highness?" He asks

"Yes thank you very much." I say and walk out

we slip into the SUV and take off towards the mall. It took two hours to get everything and by time i had it all set up in her room I was so tired.

"I need to leave to get her. Can you ask them to make Spaghetti for dinner it's her favorite" I say

"Of course." He tells me

"Usually I make it cause she likes to watch me cook but I'm so tired" I say groaning

"What if we done simple tonight and you can cook it for her tomorrow night" He suggest

"Kid friendly?" I ask

"What about burgers and fires?" He asks

"Sure." I say yawning a bit

"Go on then. It will be ready by time you get back. Also you have to interview a nanny. She will on be on call on days you have class and I have work" He tells me

"She needs to have a medical background" I say sternly

"Already done. Tomorrow morning they will be here" He tells me

I nod and leave and head to the hospital. When I get there I enter her room and she grins.

"Aunt dani" she says happily

"Ready?" I ask

"Yes" She squeals

"Alright let's go" I say helping her up

When we enter the hallway all the nurses and doctors were lines up with balloons and stuffies and my eyes fill with tears. We get to the end and Nan was standing there with tears in her eyes. She squats down to talk to Cassi and I smile.

"Now you little lady I don't wanna see you back in here. So stay healthy and enjoy life" SHe says

Cassi throws her arms around Nan and Nan squeezes her tight. Cassi steps back and Nan stands back up.

"I'll take all these down for you" Nan says gathing everything

I nod and Cassi takes my hand and we head to the car. Once she was buckled in I head back to Ryan.

"Cassi" I say

"Yes ma'am" She says

"There are some things that have changed and we will explain everything. But for now I need you to be calm ok" I tell her

"Alright" She whispers

I pull up to the house and i help her out. When we enter Ryan and all the staff were standing there waiting on us.

"Roger could you bring in Cassi's things please?" i ask

"Of course Mrs. In the little Miss' room?" He asks

"Yes please" I say and he nods and walks out

"Aunt Dani what's going on?" She asks

"Why don't we eat and we can talk" ryan suggests

"Yeah" I say leading Cassi to the table

I help her in her chair and I sit down and sigh. Paula brings out our food and we eat for a bit.

"Cassi something happened and Ryan and I go married. We will be living here" I tell her

"But I wasn't there" She says and her bottom lip trembles

"Oh sweetheart i'm so sorry. We wanted you there I promise but it happened suddenly. I promise no more secrets. Your number one in my life no matter what. You come first always" I tell her kneeling by her chair

"Ok" She whispers

"Finish up and i'll show you your room" I tell her

She nods and I take my seat with a shaky breath and I try to eat my food. Cassi picks up her cup and before I can say anything she drops it all over the floor. She looks at Ryan in panic and he winks at me and stands up and goes towards her. He squats down and looks at her and smiles.

"Paula" He calls

"Yes sir" she says walking in

"It seems Miss Cassi dropped her drink what do you think we should do about that?" He asks eyeing her

"Well let's get that cleaned up and he a new drink" She says winking at me

I shake my head as she walks away and I look back over to them.

"Sweetheart it's ok. Mistakes happen. It's just a floor" He tells her

"I'm sorry" She whispers

"It's ok. It happens and I'm sure it will happen some more. But Cassi it's just a floor and it can be cleaned." He tells her

She looks at me and I nod and she smiles at him.

"Can I have my cup Aunt Dani?" she asks

"s**t I forgot. I can run out and get you a new one. Ryan can you watch her?" I ask standing up

"Roger" He calls

"Sir?" He says stepping up

"Can you run and gt Cassi her cup?" He asks

"Of course Sir. Mrs, what kind is it?" He asks

I pull out my phone and show him and he nods.

"I'll be back. Miss Cassi's things have been put away" He says and walks away

"Aunt Dani" Cassi says

"What's wrong?" I ask stepping up to her

"I'm sleepy" She says yawning

"Alright sweetheart. Let's get you a bath and down for bed" I tell her picking her up

I nod at Ryan and head to her room. I quickly give her a bath and brush her hair and braid it. Once she was in bed there was a knock and she looked at me and I nodded.

"Come in" She says and Ryan steps in

He walks over sitting on the end of her bed and offers her a cup. She grins and takes it and takes a long drink.

"My favorite" She squeals

"That's awesome. what do you say?" I say to her

"Thank you" She tells him shyly

"Your welcome. Now we set you up in here. There is a box on your nightstand. There are several buttons. Red is for your Aunt Dani. Blue is for me and green is for Paula. If you press one one of us will come running" He tells her

"Awesome" She says giggling

"It is pretty awesome. Now get some sleep cause we have a big day tomorrow. Your Aunt Dani and you are coming to work with me tomorrow" He tells her

"Really?" She asks

"Yes ma'am." He tells her

She nods and he winks at her. He gets up and leaves and I kiss her forehead and tell her goodnight. I get up and walk out closing the door and when I turn around I bump into Ryan and it startles me.

"Sorry i didn't see you" I tell him

"its alright. The interviews will start at 8 and then we need to leave by ten" He tells me

"That's fine" I say walking around him

He grabs my arm and i turn around and look at him.

"What is wrong with her?" He asks

I suck in a breath and close my eyes letting out a unsteady breath.

"She needs a kidney transplant." I whisper

"Are you on a waiting list?" he asks

"Yes. we have been for six months. And no i'm not a match" I say to him

"what about her parents?" He asks

"They died in a car crash a year ago" I whisper

"Danielle" He says looking at me

"I'm tired" I say

He nods and leads me to my room and sits me on the bed. He squats down in front of me and I sigh.

"Tomorrow I want more details but I see your about to fall over so get some sleep" He tells me

I nod and he stands and leaves. I shower and crawl in bed. The next morning my alarm goes off so i get ready and head to the office. when i enter there were women standing around and I walked around standing by Ryan.

"This is my wife Danielle. She will be interviewing you all today" He says standing up

They eye all me and I smirk and cross my arms over my chest.

"Let's start with you." I say pointing to a scared girl

She nods and hands me her file and I nod for her to follow me. We walk down the hallway while I read her file.

"How long have you been a nurse?" I ask

"Three years." She says shyly

"And your aware that you will be taking care of our daughter right?" I ask

"Yes ma'am. I love kids. i have nieces and a nephew i babysit when I can" She tells me

"Are you aware of Cassi's suitaution?" I ask

"No ma'am" She says

"She needs a kidney transplant. I want her to have a normal life but you need to understand she can't be normal all the time" I tell her

"Yes of course." She says

"Melanie understand that if you take this job your focus is to be on her every second your with her" I tell her

"I understand." She says

"Very well i'll well call you tonight with my decision" I tell her

She nods and leaves and the rest gone on like that. By time I was done Paula was just getting down feeding Cassi.

"Thank you Paula. I thought I would be done before she woke up" I say

"Not a problem Mrs."She tells me

"Paula call me Danielle or Dani please." I tell her

"As you wish" She says and leaves

"Are we ready?" Ryan asks

"Let me put my shoes on" Cassi says

She runs up to get them and i sigh rubbing my temples.

"Did you find one you like?" He asks

"Yeah I like Melanie a lot" i say

"Yeah she seemed like she really wanted it unlike some of the others" He says

"Yeah and she seems sweet" I say

"she does" He says

"Alright i'm ready" Cassi says running in

"Cassi"I call

"Sorry I know. No running in the house" She says panting

"not only that sweetheart" I tell her

"I know I know I promise to slow down" She tells me

"Alright Miss Cassi your bag is packed" Paula says handing her a back pack

I look at her and she smiles at me.

"I packed her some snacks and her cup. Also a coloring book and some other art supplies. I know how boring it can be there" She tells me

"thank You" I mouth

She nods and walks away. Once Cassi was strapped in we headed to Ryan's office. When we got there and headed in heads turned towards up in shock. Ryan punched in a code and pushed a huge door open and we all stepped in. Cassi walked over looking out the huge glass window and smiled.

"this is so cool" She says smiling like crazy

I laugh and smile just watching her. I feel Ryan stand next to me but I can feel his eyes on me.

"Alright little lady come help me with something" He says walking over to his desk and sitting down

Cassi ran over and he lifted her up on his lap and pulled out some papers. He laid them out in front of them and I walked over and looked over their shoulders and smiled.

"Cassi look at these and pick the best" He tells her

She picks one up and tilts her head looking at it and then places it down and picks up the other an she smiles.

'This one" She says

"Are you sure?" He asks

"Yes. Look at the way the color changes and the way it flows" She says

He looks at her in shock and I grin.

"How did you know that?" Ryan asks

"Aunt dani is a fashion designer" She says shrugging

His eyes snap to me and I give a shy smile.

"Your what?" He asks

"I'm actually studying for it" I say shrugging

"And you agree with what she said?" He asks

"yes actually. The other is awul" I say

"agreed. Cassi go out my door and knock on the door next door and tell her to come to me" He tells her

She nods and jumps down and walks out. it was a few minutes later I hear Cassi scream. I take off and find a woman dragging her away.

"What the hell do you think your doing. Get your f*****g hands off my daughter" i scream at her

She jumped in shock and Cassi ran over to Ryan and he picked her up rubbing her back trying to calm her down.

"Rhonda my office now" He says calmly as he can

He walks in sitting down still rubbing Cassi's back. She enters and I close the door with a slam and she jumps. I walk around the desk and take Cassi and hug her to me. She was still crying and I swayed with her.

"Want to explain to me why your hands were on our daughter?" He shouts at her

She gasps and looks at me in shock.

"I'm sorry I didn't know" She says with a shaky voice

"Let me make something perfectly clear if you ever put your hands on my child again you won't only be fired but I will sue you for everything you have" I snarl at her

"yes ma'am. I'm sorry" She says while shaking sligtly

"Rhonda your very good at your job but don't think for one second I won't fire you if you step out of line one more time for anything" Ryan says standing up glaring at her over his desk

"Yes sir" She stutters out

"Now Cassi was coming to tell you that I need this sent off ASAP" He says sliding the sheet over to her

"Yes sir. I'll do it now." She says

She walks over towards us and stops.

"may I?" she asks

I nod and whisper in Cassi's ear and she slowly turns around.

"I am very sorry sweetheart" Rhonda tells Cassi

"s'ok" She whispers

"Would you like to come with me. I'll show you have to take copy's and we may take some fun copies you can color later" She asks her softly

"Can I?" She asks me

"Sure. Stay out of trouble" I tell her placing her on her feet

Rhonda offers her hand and Cassi takes it and they walk out together. I turn and look out the window at the city and sigh.

"It all seems so small" I say softly

"It does. Have you ever been up in the needle?" He asks

"No. I'm always to busy for that kind of stuff" I tell him shrugging

"Why don't we go up for dinner one night. We can even take Cassi on the big ferris wheel" He says

"Her parents were my best friends. I'm her godmother. They had it legally drawn up that she went to me if something happened to them. It was sudden. I had just had a night out with Addi the night before it happened. I had Cassi with me cause they wanted date night and I was always up for babysitting her. She is my partner in crime. I had just put her to bed when I got the call. I sat in my bathroom crying all night. But I wasn't even crying cause I lost them. I was crying cause that beautiful little girl lost her parents and I had to be the one to destroy her world. Then after she finally settled in with me we got the news about her kidneys. I bust my ass to bring in as much as I can so I can give her the best in everything. she never asks for anything and when i see her eyeing something I ask her if she wants it but she always says no. It doens't matter what it is she always says no. Christmas is coming up and the child won't even tell me what she wants santa to bring. I never wanted to be a the mom that couldn't tell what her kid wanted but I struggle but i keep it together cause if I break then Cassi suffers" I say still looking out the window

"It's ok to break Dani. And I stayed up late last night calling the best doctor in the world to come in and look at her for you. I even made a call and a donation to get her name moved to the top of the list." he tells me

I whirl around in shock staring at him in shock.

"why?" I ask

"Because you got sucked into this mess and I see how much you care for her and how hard you work. Your helping me by pretending to be the good wife so I want to give this to you and her." He says shrugging

I don't say anything I just step up and hug him tight letting my tears flow for once. By time I stepped back his white shirt was soaked and my make up was smeared all over it.

"s**t sorry" I say wiping my face

"Don't worry about it it's just a shirt. I have a spare here" He tells me

"Sorry" I say looking back out the window

"Dani don't do that. It's ok" He tells me

There is a knock on the door so i walk over and open it and Rhonda stands there with Cassi.

"Mommy we made our handprints" She says showing me

I laugh and lift her up spinning her around and she giggles.

"That's awesome sprout. What do you say we get out of here and go get some lunch and maybe we can talk mom into dinner in the needle" Ryan says to her

"Please can we?" Cassi asks and my eyes widen

"Well tell daddy we have to go shopping for dresses then" I say looking at him with a glare

He pulls out his wallet and pulls out his black card and hands it to cassi and smiles.

"Go have fun and i'll meet you back at the house in a few hours" He tells us

"Think we can call Aunt nessa and see if she wants to go with us?" Cassi asks

I look at Ryan and he nods and I smile at him.

"Sure sweetheart go use daddy's phone and call her" I say placing her down

"You don't have a phone?" He asks me

"No. It cost to much" I say

"Get a good one while your out." He tells me sternly

I sigh and nod.

"Hello. Who is this?" Vanessa says and I smile

"Aunt Nessa it's me. Will you go shopping with us?" she asks

"Cupcake out dani on" SHe tells her

I walk over picking up the phone and sigh.

"Yeah" I say

"Shopping?" She asks

"Yeah, I'll explain just say yes please" I tell her

"Of course." She says and i hear the smile in her voice

"We will pick you up i twenty." I tell her

"Love you bye" She says

"love you" I say hanging up

"Ok can we go?" Cassi asks

"Tell daddy bye and we will go" I tell her

She runs over hugging ryan and She runs to the door opening it and walking out. I smile and take off after her.

"Dani" Ryan says walking after me

He spins me around and kisses me suddenly. He pulls back and smirks at me and scowl and he face drops.

"Now hubby what did I tell you about kissing me in public" I say pulling his tie a little

"Well you see I couldn't control myself wife" He smirks down at me

"Well i will have to see what I can do about that later tonight" I say kissing him again quick

I spin around and walk towards a waiting Cassi. When I look over my shoulder his jaw was on the ground and he looked stunned.

"Tease" He growls at me

"That's not what you said last night" I call

We step in the elevator and I wiggle my fingers at him.
