Maya's response was calm and immediate. "When's her appointment?" she asked. Kira checked the time, feeling a pang of worry. "It was earlier today... she already missed it." Maya didn't hesitate. "Okay, how much do you need?" Kira was taken aback by the question. "Maya, I..." she started to say, but Maya cut her off. "How much, Kira?" she asked again, Her voice is firm but gentle. Kira hesitated, then whispered about $5,700. There was a moment of silence. Kira lowered her face in disappointment, running her hand through her hair, staring at the blank screen in front of her. Then Maya spoke up, "Check your account." Kira's eyes widened in surprise, "What?" she asked, her voice laced with confusion. Maya's response was simple, "I've sent it." Kira's anxiety began to dissipate, replaced by a sense of urgency as Maya instructed her to call her mom. Kira's hands moved swiftly, her fingers faster across the screen of her phone, and then she saw it — the alert. For a few seconds, she just stared, her mind struggling to process the sudden turn of her situation. Relief washed over her, a wave of emotion that was almost overwhelming. "Maya..." she began, her voice cracking with gratitude. But Maya cut her off, her tone gentle but firm, "Don't say anything, just take care of your mom, what are we friends for if not for standing by each other?" We'll figure everything else out later." Kira nodded, tears of gratitude steaming down her face. "Thank you," she whispered, her words barely audible. "Thank you so much." Maya's let out instructions, "Go, call her now." The line w ent dead.
