Chapter 2

1321 Words
I don't remember how much time I have spent sitting and crying in my old Nissan. It was so painful. Alice was bot just my cousin, she was for me more than a real sister and close friend friend at the same time. Despite the fact that she was 5 years younger than me, we were very close. At least, that's what I thought. I am twenty five years old, and she's only twenty. Alice always stood out from the crowd thanks to her appearance. Blonde with thick long hair and green eyes, a beautiful figure and full lips. She always had a crowd of suitors, so why did she need my man?! I couldn't understand what I did wrong to deserve it... Taking my glasses off my face, I looked in the mirror and saw a girl who looked much older than her years. Pale skin, puffy, red eyes from crying, and dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. I couldn't understand why a man like Arthur wanted to marry me, even though he had cheated on me. I was sure of one thing, he didn't love me. Most likely, he wanted to get closer to my father's business, as a family member, and later inherit his company. Since my brother wasn't interested in business either and worked as an ordinary average manager. I needed to do something, but I had no idea in mi mid what to do. If I call off our wedding a week before the celebration, it will be just idiotic and everyone will judge me and convince me that I am wrong. And if I marry this i***t, I will never be able to forgive myself. Then I saw Arthur and Alice walking past my car. They looked very happy and didn't even look around. So I easily stayed unnoticed. Arthur was constantly pawing at her ass, which was easy to see because of her short skirt. His eyes were shining with happiness and desire. I saw a completely different Arthur. He had never behaved like that with me and his behavior was always reserved and sometimes arrogant. Arthur, like a true gentleman, opened the door of his McLaren and sat the girl in the passenger seat, and sat in the driver's seat. The man stepped on the gas and the car started drifting. Happy couple drove away while I was still sitting in my car. I took a chocolate donut out of the box and took a bite. "Vanessa, don't be such a fool! You're going to be embarrassed anyway, so you have nothing to lose after all." I thought, while I was chewing the donut. If I think about it carefully, I've already spent a lot of money on this wedding, and that's not counting the cost of a hundred guests who are invited and the dress which costs ten thousand dollar. That's why I decided that I would do everything to ensure that Arthur would remember this day for the rest of his life. Having finished the doughnut, I wiped the remaining tears from my face, and starting my car on the second try, I drove home to my rented apartment. I rented a small one-room apartment in a less prestigious area of the city for two years. I always wanted to be independent and therefore I always tried to cover my living expenses myself. I lived on the second floor in one room apartment, with iron bars on my windows to keep out burglars. My apartment had a tiny kitchen, a small room that only had space for a wardrobe and a bed, and a bathroom with a shower and toilet. Opening the door to my apartment, I took off my shoes and, as usual, left them in the hallway. Then I walked into the room holding the box of doughnuts as if it had already become my own ones. I was lying and crying on the bed, and also eating them in the same time. Although they were intended for Arthur. When I finished eating them, I strongly decided that it was time to solve this problem and change my miserable life. I decided that I would not tell anyone anything. I would play the role of the "happy fool" who knew nothing. "Why should I be the only one to disgrace myself? I'll give everyone a full opportunity to admire Arthur and Alice in all their glory." I thought and smiled. I took my phone out of my bag and, collecting my thoughts, turned on the video of them having s*x. Watching their videos again, I felt hatred, but I had to admit that they actually looked good together. Their beautiful bodies seemed to dance together and merge into one. Firstly, I wanted to talk to Alice. I was interested in what she thought about Arthur, and how she would wriggle out of my tricky questions. Secondly, I wanted to understand, just for myself, when this treacherous relationship could have started between my two close people. I took my mobile phone and dialed my young cousin's number, but no one answered my call. After about five minutes, I decided to call my boyfriend, but he didn't pick up the phone either. Apparently, they were still having fun together. Unable to think of anything better, I took my credit card and went out into the street wearing my home clothes and went into the first nearby supermarket and bought two bottles of champagne. It started raining outside. I was like a mangy stray cat walking in the rain without an umbrella, but carrying a bottle of champagne in each hand. If anybody of my family had seen me in this state, they would have thought I had clearly gone crazy. I walked into the entrance of my apartment building and since I was soaking wet, a wet trail followed me. When I entered my room, I sat down next to the bed. I sat there completely wet and felt the cold gripping my body. Opening one of the bottles, I took a sip of champagne straight from the bottle's neck. "Who would have thought that yesterday's excellent student and the best graduate of the university would sit and drink champagne all alone?" I thought and laughed like a madwoman. Suddenly my phone rang. It was Alice. My favorite cousin was probably already single and could pull the wool over my eyes. my thoughts, I answered the phone. "Hello, my dear! Sorry, I didn't hear you call!" Alice said immediately. "Hi! Everything is fine... Don't worry. How was your day?" I asked, hoping that her lie would not be so obvious. "I'm so tired. I've been in classes all day, then revised for exams." Alice replied. "And how are you?" "I was at work late. I have just come home. I'm tired too. Sorry, let's ring up tomorrow." I said. "No problem, then I'll call you tomorrow. Good night, darling! Bye!" Alice said happily. "Good night and sweet dreams. Bye!" I replied and immediately picked up the phone. A tear ran down my cheek and I continued drinking champagne. A few moments later I received a message from my fiance: "Sorry, I was busy. Let's meet tomorrow, my sweet baby." A cruel smile appeared on my face. This imbecile had no idea that I knew about his affair with Alice. So I decided not to show that I knew about it and pretend that everything was okay.I sent a reply to his message: "Everything is fine. Don't worry! Love you, good night! Kiss you." Without thinking for a long, Arthur sent me a reply: "I love you too and miss you very much! Good night, kisses." For me it was a fiasco. The man I loved more than my life was blatantly lying to me. And the worst thing was that he was lying for his own selfish purposes.
