Emerald's POV
I couldn't sleep.
The room was quiet, but my mind was louder than ever.
Victor's words kept repeating in my head.
"You don't know the truth about your parents."
For twenty years, I had lived with questions I was too afraid to ask.
Why did my parents die?
Why did Victor treat me like a burden?
Why did my wolf disappear after that terrible night?
And why did Lucian seem to believe there was more to my story than even I knew?
I looked down at the beautiful dress lying on the bed.
A few days ago, I was wearing old clothes and cleaning floors.
Now, I was being treated like someone important.
But a part of me was still waiting for everything to disappear.
A knock came at the door.
I quickly stood.
"Come in."
The door opened, and Lucian walked inside.
The moment I saw him, the tight feeling in my chest disappeared slightly.
He always had that effect on me.
"You haven't slept."
It wasn't a question.
I looked away.
"How did you know?"
"Because your eyes look like someone carrying a heavy secret."
I was silent.
Lucian walked closer.
"Emerald."
His voice softened.
"You don't have to hide your feelings from me."
I swallowed.
"I don't know who I am anymore."
His expression changed.
"What do you mean?"
"Everyone keeps telling me I am special, but I don't feel special."
I looked at my hands.
"I spent my whole life being told I was useless. How am I supposed to suddenly believe that I matter?"
Lucian stared at me for a moment.
Then he gently held my hand.
"Because their words were never the truth."
I looked at him.
"The truth is what?"
His eyes softened.
"The truth is that you survived when many people would have given up."
My heart moved.
Before I could answer, a loud sound came from outside.
Lucian immediately became alert.
"What was that?"
I looked toward the window.
The guards were running across the courtyard.
Something was happening.
A few moments later, one of the royal guards entered.
"My prince."
Lucian turned.
"What happened?"
The guard bowed.
"We found something hidden in the Blue Moon Pack records."
My heartbeat increased.
"What does it have to do with me?"
The guard looked at me.
"It belonged to your parents."
I froze.
"My parents?"
The guard held out a small wooden box.
"This was found inside the old Alpha chamber. It was sealed for twenty years."
Lucian took the box carefully.
There was a symbol carved on the top.
A symbol I had seen before.
The same mark that appeared when my wolf awakened.
My breathing stopped.
"Open it."
Lucian looked at me.
"Are you sure?"
I nodded.
"I need to know the truth."
Slowly, he opened the box.
Inside was an old letter and a silver necklace.
The moment I touched the necklace...
A sudden warmth spread through my body.
My wolf reacted immediately.
"Our mother."
Tears filled my eyes.
I picked up the letter with shaking hands.
The handwriting was familiar.
My mother's handwriting.
I opened it.
"To my daughter, Emerald."
My breath caught.
"If you are reading this, it means we failed to protect you from the darkness coming for our family."
My hands trembled.
Lucian stood beside me silently.
"Never believe those who tell you that you are weak. Your wolf was not taken from you. It was hidden to protect you."
I froze.
Hidden?
"One day, your wolf will return when you find the person who can protect your heart and stand beside your destiny."
My eyes moved to Lucian.
"But remember, Emerald. Your power does not come from your mate. It comes from you."
A tear fell onto the paper.
For the first time...
I felt like my parents were speaking to me again.
But there was one final line.
A line that made my blood run cold.
"Trust no one in the Blue Moon Pack. The person closest to you is the reason we are gone."
Silence filled the room.
Lucian looked at me.
"Emerald..."
I slowly lowered the letter.
My entire life had been a lie.
And now I knew one thing.
My parents' death was not an accident.
Someone had betrayed them.
Someone who was still alive.
Someone who had raised me.
Victor.
