19 Percent.   Life in the Oven was steady, and it had remained steady for decades. I was conceived when my parents had just reached twenty years old. There was a dire need to keep up our population. While at the time of my birth there were more than enough Residents to maintain the operation of the Safehold, the majority of the Residents and workers were aging. I was among one of the second generation to be born within, and from a young age, I realized this would likely be where I died.   For most of human history, this was not unusual. From the ages of the caveman, up to the industrial revolution and beyond, many were born, grew, and died not miles apart. The generation of my grandparents and those before them had been the first to be able to experience the freedom of the entire world
