Hopeless

1059 Words
Later in the evening... Trevor stares at his reflection in the mirror for the umpteenth time, while having a smile dancing on his lips. He has not been this happy in a while now. He has everything he cherished in life, but one thing he lacks is his brother's love, which has been affecting him all these years. It hurts to have his brother around, and still feels so lonely. Taking another glance at his reflection in the mirror, he smiles and picks up his phone from the dresser, striding out of the room afterward. Descending the staircase, he meets Travis sitting on the couch, and waiting patiently for him. "Did I keep you waiting for long?" Trevor asks as he walks up to him, and he rolls his eyes as he stands up to his feet and strides to the door instead, ignoring him. He's only going on the hangout because Trevor would feel bad if he doesn't go with him. The drive to the place was boring as none of them spoke to each other. Trevor was expecting that from him anyway. They rarely talk, so it's what he's almost used to. He never tried to change him, knowing that he would never change the way he is. The loud screeching sound of the car pulls Travis back to reality, and that's when he realizes that they're already in front of a bar, which he presumes to be the place they're hanging out. "We're here!" Trevor announces happily, taking off the seatbelt, and opening the door afterward. "How come you didn't tell me that your so-called hangout is in the bar? Are you here to drink again?" Travis snaps at him angrily, and he sighs as he throws his head on the headrest in frustration. Turns out that he made the biggest mistake of his life, forcing him here in the first place. "Come on, Travis. Can you just trust me for once? Yes, I know I'm the bad guy, I'm the flirty one, I'm the bad brother you..." "That's enough. Let's go in," Knowing where this will head, Travis cuts him off, and steps out of the car. They both stride to the entrance door, and as they step inside the bar, the loud buzzing music and the smell of alcohol welcome them. As much as Travis hates being in this kind of place, knowing how his brother will feel, how's he supposed to leave him all by himself? "I'll be back," He says to Travis as he grabs a wine glass from one of the waiters, and starts walking away. "Careful, Trevor. Don't drink too much, I won't carry you home," Travis yells after him, running his fingers through his hair... Back at the mansion... "We're here, ma'am," The cabby's voice pulls Nadia Brandon's attention back to reality, and looking out of the window, she realizes that they're already in front of the mansion. "Thank you," Stepping out of the car, she watches the cab drives away, not after paying him his money. Staring at the building in front of her, her heart beats rapidly as she sulks her lips in and takes a deep breath. She has no idea if this is a good idea, maybe she will regret it later, but she just needs to make this decision, she needs to do this. Walking over to the big beautiful gate, she places a knock on it, praying silently that the gate open. After a few times of knocking on the gate, it finally opens, revealing a young lady of about twenty-seven years old. "Uhm... Good day, ma'am," She greets her politely, expecting a polite reply from the woman, but rather, she glares hard at her with pure disgust written on her face. She checks herself out to be sure that she isn't wearing something funny, but it doesn't seem like it, so she raises her gaze to the lady again. "Why are you here?" She finally asks in a rather harsh tone, as if we have met before. "My name is Nadia Brandon. I learned that there's a job vacancy here for the post of a maid, so I thought I could apply," Nadia explains to her, and she scoffs. "There's no vacancy again. You may leave," She says to her, and without even waiting to hear her out, she walks back inside and closes the gate on her face. Staring at the closed gate, a drop of tears slid down her cheeks as she feels her whole world crumbling down before her very eyes. This was supposed to be her last hope, but what is she going to do now? She really needs this job, but it seems like luck is not on her side. What has she done to deserve all the pain she has been through all her life? Why is life so unfair to her? What crime has she committed to suffer this fate? Those are the questions she has been asking herself all these years, but too bad that she never got answers to them. Her name is Nadia Brandon, a twenty-five years old orphan, who has been living all her life at the expense of the cruelty of life. What would you call losing her parents at the age of ten, and left to take care of her blind sister? An unfortunate life, right? Maybe it's worse than that. Her sister has been blind for the past thirteen years, and she has been the one taking care of her. She has tried many times to secure a job to raise money for their upkeep, but how was she supposed to secure a job anywhere when she barely went to school? All thanks to the orphanage she used to live in with her sister, which taught her how to speak good English. Her life would've been doomed without the basic teachings in the orphanage. More tears stream down her cheeks as she stares at the gate. She thought she would at least be able to get this job even if it wasn't going to earn her much, at least she would be able to take care of her sister, but her hopes are all shattered now. Turning around to leave, she stops abruptly as she spots a white car driving toward the gate. That must be Trevor's car...
