That night, Luce came to Tsuna in his dreams.
She was more real than ever before. Her form was solid, her eyes warm, her presence comforting in a way Tsuna had never experienced. She sat beside him on a grassy hill, the same hill where they had first met. The sky above them was painted with stars, millions of them, twinkling like diamonds scattered across velvet.
"Hello, little Sky," she said softly. "I've been waiting for you."
Tsuna opened his mouth to speak, but no words came. In the waking world, his voice was gone. But here, in this dream space, he could communicate. He could think his thoughts, and Luce could hear them.
I'm sorry, he thought. I'm sorry I couldn't come sooner. I've been... I've been so scared.
"I know," Luce said. "I know what they've done to you. I know about the pain, the silence, the loneliness. I've been watching, Tsuna. I've been waiting for the right moment."
The right moment?
"The moment when you would be ready." Luce smiled gently. "The moment when you would be strong enough to leave."
I don't feel strong. I feel broken. Useless. Just like they always said.
"You are not useless." Luce's voice was firm. "You are a Sky, Tsuna. The purest Sky I have ever sensed. And I have sensed many Skys in my lifetime."
What does that mean? Being a Sky?
Luce reached out and took his hand. Her touch was warm, like sunlight on his skin. "Close your eyes," she said. "And feel."
Tsuna obeyed. He closed his eyes and let himself feel. At first, there was nothing. Just the wind, the grass beneath him, the warmth of Luce's hand.
Then—
Flames.
They were everywhere. Orange and gold and yellow, dancing around him like fireflies. They swirled and spun, painting patterns in the air. They were warm, beautiful, alive.
"These are your flames," Luce said. "Your Sky flames. They've always been inside you, hidden beneath the pain and the fear. But now they're waking up."
I don't understand.
"Sky flames are special," Luce explained. "They're the rarest of all flames. Sky Skys can harmonize with other flames. They can nurture, protect, and bring people together. Sky Skys are leaders, Tsuna. They're the ones who hold the world together."
Tsuna opened his eyes. He looked at his hands, and he saw them. Tiny sparks of orange light, dancing across his fingers.
I'm a Sky?
"Yes."
But... I'm not a leader. I'm not strong. I can't even speak.
"You are strong," Luce said firmly. "You've survived eight years of abuse, neglect, and pain. You've endured things that would break most adults. You are the strongest person I have ever met, Tsuna. You just don't see it yet."
Tears pricked at Tsuna's eyes. Why are you so kind to me? I don't deserve this.
"Everyone deserves kindness," Luce said. "And you, little Sky, deserve more kindness than most. You've been shown nothing but cruelty your entire life. It's time for that to change."
She reached into her robes and pulled out an orange pacifier. It glowed with a soft, pulsing light, identical to the one around Tsuna's neck.
"This is my pacifier," she said. "The Sky Arcobaleno's pacifier. It's been with me for many years, but soon, I won't be able to carry it anymore. The curse is taking me, Tsuna. I'm dying."
Tsuna's heart clenched. Dying?
"Yes. The Arcobaleno curse is a heavy burden. It gives us power, but it takes away our time. I've been fighting it for as long as I can, but I can't fight anymore. I'm tired, Tsuna. I'm so tired."
I don't want you to die.
Luce smiled sadly. "I know. But death is a part of life, little Sky. Everyone must face it eventually. But before I go, I want to give you something."
What?
"Your pacifier," she said. "The one around your neck. I've already given it to you. But I haven't told you what it truly means."
Tsuna looked down at the pacifier. It glowed warmly against his chest.
"By accepting this pacifier," Luce said, "you've become the new Sky Arcobaleno. You've taken my place. The curse will affect you differently since you're still a child, but the power is yours. And with that power comes responsibility."
Responsibility?
"The Arcobaleno are guardians of the Tri-Ni-Set," Luce explained. "The Tri-Ni-Set is the collection of three powerful artifacts: the Pacifiers, the Vongola Rings, and the Mare Rings. Together, they maintain the balance of the world. As a Sky Arcobaleno, you are connected to all of them."
I don't understand.
"You will," Luce said. "In time, you will understand everything. But for now, I need you to trust me. I need you to leave your family behind and find your true family."
Where? Where do I go?
"The Tri-Ni-Set will guide you," Luce said. "It will pull you toward your guardians, your allies, your family. But you must be brave, Tsuna. You must be willing to take that first step."
Tsuna was silent for a moment. His mind was racing, filled with questions and fears and doubts.
Will I ever speak again? he finally asked.
Luce's eyes softened. "Yes. When you're ready. When you've healed enough to let your voice return. Your silence is a shield, Tsuna. A shield you created to protect yourself. But shields can also be walls. And walls keep people out."
I don't want to be alone anymore.
"Then let the walls fall," Luce said gently. "Let people in. Trust them, even if it's scary. You'll find that there are people in this world who will love you, Tsuna. People who will protect you. People who will never hurt you."
Like you?
"Like me," Luce said. "And like the Arcobaleno. And like the guardians who are waiting for you. And like the Vongola ancestors who are watching over you."
Vongola?
Luce smiled. "Ah, that's a story for another time. For now, just know that you are not alone. You never were. And you never will be again."
She squeezed his hand, and Tsuna felt warmth spread through his entire body. It was a feeling he'd never experienced before. Safety. Comfort. Love.
"Wake up, little Sky," Luce said softly. "It's time to begin your journey. Your family is waiting for you."
Tsuna woke with a gasp.
He was in his bed, the small, cold bed in his tiny room. The morning light was filtering through the curtains. The house was quiet.
And the pacifier around his neck was glowing.
It's time, Luce's voice whispered in his mind. It's time to leave, Tsuna. They don't deserve you. You deserve better. And you will find it.
Tsuna sat up. His body ached, but his heart felt lighter than it had in years. Something had changed. Something fundamental inside him had shifted.
He wasn't the same person he'd been yesterday.
He was a Sky.
He was an Arcobaleno.
And he was done being a victim.
Tsuna got out of bed and looked around his room. There was nothing here he wanted to keep. Nothing here that mattered. The only thing worth taking was the pacifier around his neck.
But then he saw it. A small journal, hidden beneath his mattress. He'd stolen it from Haruki's room years ago, determined to document the abuse. He'd filled it with drawings and notes, a silent record of every cruelty Haruki had inflicted.
Tsuna tucked the journal into his pocket. It was the only proof of what had happened to him. The only evidence that his pain had been real.
He slipped out of his room and crept down the hallway. The house was silent. Nana was still asleep. Haruki was still in his room. Iemitsu was away, as always.
Tsuna reached the front door. His hand was on the handle. One more step, and he would be free.
"Where do you think you're going?"
Tsuna froze.
Haruki was standing at the top of the stairs. His eyes were cold, his expression cruel. He was already dressed, already awake, already ready to ruin Tsuna's escape.
"I asked you a question," Haruki said, descending the stairs. "Where are you going, little brother?"
Tsuna didn't move. Couldn't move. His body had locked up, frozen by years of conditioning. Haruki's voice triggered something in him, something primal and terrified.
"I'll give you three seconds to answer," Haruki said. "One. Two—"
Tsuna opened the door and ran.
He didn't look back. He didn't stop to think. He just ran, his legs pumping, his heart pounding, the pacifier pulsing against his chest.
"You can't escape!" Haruki screamed behind him. "You're mine! You belong to me!"
Tsuna ignored him. He kept running, faster and faster, until the house was far behind him. Until the street was far behind him. Until he couldn't hear Haruki's voice anymore.
He ran until he reached the hill. The same hill where he'd first met Luce. The same hill where his life had changed forever.
He collapsed onto the grass, panting, crying, shaking. He'd done it. He'd actually done it. He'd escaped.
The pacifier pulsed warmly against his chest.
Well done, little Sky, Luce's voice whispered. Your journey has just begun. But don't worry. You're not alone. Your family is waiting.
Tsuna looked up at the sky. The sun was rising, painting the clouds in shades of orange and gold. The world was waking up, and so was he.
He was no longer the unwanted twin.
He was the Sky Arcobaleno.
And nothing would ever be the same.
To be continued...
