Anna POV
"What is he like? Tell me everything!" Sara exclaimed. I giggled at her joy as I washed down the diner tables.
"He's...nice. I don't know. It's different. Kind of awkward, too. Especially after I jumped on his throat yesterday. " I answered.
"I can't believe that. You have the craziest luck." She laughed. When I informed Sara who it was, she practically cried from laughing so hard. She wasn't wrong, though. I certainly have the weirdest luck.
"Did you get his number?"
"Well...no, I guess not. I left before we got to that."
"How are you going to see him again, then? What if he doesn't see you again? What if—" she rambled.
"Sara, I will meet him again. It's all false, remember? I will run into him one way or another. Dane will make sure of it." I laughed at her distress.
"Oh, sure. Do you feel bad though? I mean, he has no idea. What if he finds out?" She asks.
"He won't find out. Trust me. Dane will make sure he doesn't. Plus, I'm not doing anything bad. I'm just starting to know the kid."
"And getting paid for it." She added.
"Why are you trying to make me feel horrible for it? This was your idea, to begin with," I pointed out.
"I'm not! I'm just saying. Anyways, I am going to run back and count the tills." She assured me before retreating to the back.
What I'm doing isn't wrong...right? I don't know this person. I don't owe him anything. I'm doing this because I need to. This is going to help me. It's not like I'm spending the money on random s**t. I have my family to think about. I have Phoebe to think about. I will do whatever to give her the life she deserves. I will do whatever to give her the life that was stolen away from me. If it means I have to date this guy for some extra money, then so be it.
Hours passed and business wasn't picking up just yet. This is what sucks about working here occasionally. When it is slow, it drags on forever. I began to go through my Twitter timeline before I heard the door chime. When I looked up, I noticed Ethan walking in the door.
"Diner Girl." He greeted me with a smile. If it were anyone else, I would take offense to being labeled 'Diner Girl.' But I know he means well and it is all in good humor. Plus, ranting at him again probably wouldn't assist my cause.
"What, are you stalking me or something?" I joked.
"Hmm, absolutely a possibility. I came here for another coffee." He winked.
"Another coffee? Really?" I asked, raising a brow.
"And maybe I wanted to see you again, too. You left so early yesterday."
"I know. I would have stayed if I could. " I said. I wasn't lying either. I would have stayed if it weren't for my father contacting me and demanding that I come home. I was having a terrific time.
I began to fill a mug with coffee and set it before him. We chatted for a moment, and I noticed he was dressed in his casual clothing again. I guess I liked him better like this. He looked carefree. Plus, I don't know how, but the guy made sweatpants look so good.
"Let me take you out tonight," he said.
"What?" I laughed.
"Let me take you out tonight." He repeated with a laugh.
"Why, though?" I questioned. I know Dane was meant to convince him to give me a chance, but I didn't expect it would be so quickly.
"Because I would like to get to know you. Is that a crime?" he laughed.
"No. I guess I'm just...surprised." The ball started rolling quite rapidly on this entire event.
"Well, I would like to take you out if you would allow it." He smiled.
"When?"
"How about tonight around 7?"
"Sure. I would adore that." I smiled. I guess this day just became quite interesting.
When he finished his coffee, he began to bring out his wallet before I stopped him. It was pointless for me to make him pay for one cup of coffee that didn't even cost us anything at all. He attempted to resist, of course. Thankfully, I won that struggle.
"I'll pick you up. Here is my number. Shoot me a text with your address and I'll let you know when I'm on my way." He grinned, handing me a business card.
"I will. I'll see you tonight." I grinned in return. I watched as he walked out of the diner with a smirk on his face the entire time. When he left, I looked down at the card he gave me. It was a standard business card with his name on the front and number on the back. It was quite deserted for the most part, but it was pleasant. I mean, the man just handed me his business card for crying out loud.
I texted Dane immediately. I didn't know he was going to start yet. We haven't even gone over the restrictions of this entire deal.
Me: Ethan came into my business and asked me on a date. I didn't realize you were going to convince him until after we had a formal agreement.
I waited a few minutes until he eventually replied.
Dane: I didn't.
Dane hasn't said anything to Ethan yet. That indicates Ethan just wanted to take me out tonight on his own. Wow, was it going to be this easy? Maybe he didn't need a confidence boost after all. Or maybe every girl he has asked out has said no.
I feel like that's incredibly unlikely, though.
The day passed, and I was grateful when I got off of work so I could go home and get ready. What do I wear to this date? Is it casual, or do I need to dress up? Are we genuinely going out or are we going to be sitting in a car the entire time? I am freaking out for no cause if we're being honest.
You can't go wrong with a little sundress and shoes, right? I curled my hair into loose curls and put on very minimal makeup. I don't want to overdo it, and I feel like the dress is already pushing it. I sent my address to him earlier, and I'm waiting for him to inform me he's on his way. It's 6:30 right now, and I'm more nervous now than ever.
