“Can you not act like this?” Raina looked down briefly at his hand around her wrist. Then up at him. Expression unreadable. “Sophie wasn’t well,” Harrison explained immediately, exhaustion threading through his voice. “She’s alone in Jinava and carrying Ethan’s child. I couldn’t ignore her.” Raina listened quietly. Then replied evenly: “I never asked you to.” The answer hit him unexpectedly hard. She gently removed his hand from her wrist. Effortless. Like separating herself from him no longer required strength. “But can I go to work now?” Harrison’s jaw tightened instantly. Because this version of Raina frightened him more than anger ever had.
