With a gentle chime, the elevator doors opened, exposing the dimly lighted penthouse. With its golden lights shimmering like far-off stars, the metropolitan skyline extended far into the distance. Sophie, however, hardly noticed.
As she entered, fatigue seeped into her bones, making her legs feel weak. Adrian's hand held tight around her waist, silently directing her forward. He had always been steadfast, unflinching, and unwavering, but tonight was different.
