Victoria commanded attention as she approached Sophie, her voice resonating like silk throughout the opulent hall. Her pointed heels clicking against the marble floor seemed to drown out the faint clink of glasses and whispered talks. "I see that you've adapted to Adrian's world pretty well."
Sophie tensed up and tightened her hold on her champagne flute. Her heart thumping in her chest, she mustered a courteous grin. "Thank you, I'm doing fine."
"Are you sure?" Victoria's nicely arched brows lifted in faux concern as she tilted her head. You do a good job at the role, I must say. However, appearances can be misleading.
For a little period, Sophie lost her composure, but she soon regained it. "Victoria, I'm right where I should be."
