Chapter 9

Astin POV

After leaving Anna behind, I went in search of Marie, who I needed to set straight about things that she could and could not say or do to my mate, but when I stepped back inside of the ball it was mass chaos and hysteria. Everyone was running around. There were people on the floor not moving, it was like walking into the twilight zone. I found Marie in the back looking absolutely terrified. I stood in front of her trying to get her attention but she wasn't focusing. I grabbed her arm and shook her.

"Marie! Marie! Get your f*****g head out of your ass! What is going on?"

She finally snapped out of it and looked at me with big doe eyes.

"Someone poisoned the wine. Everyone is dying or they can not get in touch with their wolf. We need to get out of here! Now, Astin, we have to go!" She yelled as she pulled me towards the exit.

Someone poisoned the wine. Who would do something like that? Why would they do something like that, with all of these wolves in attendance? I followed Marie out the doors and was almost in the car when I heard an angry howling sound from deep in the forest. It was unlike any howl that I have ever heard of. Marie scrambled into the car as fast as she could and I climbed into the car with her. She snuggled up against me and as much as I wanted to I didn't fight her about it. Jameson growled in the back of my mind.

It is just for the car ride home. She is scared. The least I can do is offer her some comfort after ditching her the whole night. I linked him.

He just snorted at me. Yeah, and how do you think mate would feel to see you snuggled up against someone who disrespected her first time she met her?

Yeah, well, our mate is not here now, is she you asshat.

Jameson retreated to the back of my mind and put up a block so I couldn't say anything back to him. This was going to be a long ride home. Something just wasn't right about the whole ball or Anna. Seeing her being engulfed in purple flames was something I had never heard about, but she was beautiful and special I knew from that alone that she was not just ordinary. Marie fell asleep in my lap, her head near the tip of my d**k. It feels nice, but then I remember that I found my mate and if I have any chance with her, I can not afford to screw this up by thinking with my d**k instead of my head. I slowly moved away from Marie and lay her head on the seat of the car for the rest of the ride back home. I stared out the window thinking of my beautiful mate. When we arrived back at the pack house, I pushed Marie off me so I could get out of the car. She grunted as she landed on the floor between the seats of the car.

"Are you going to help me or just leave me here since you're the one who made me like this?" she yelled.

"Just leave you, call someone else to help you. No one told you to fall asleep on my lap!"

"Youre an asshole you d**k!"

"Yeah well life's a b***h!" I yelled back as I walked up the stairs and in through the front doors.

I was greeted by a bunch of omegas trying to ask me a bunch of questions and get my attention to help them, but I just ignored them. I am usually pretty nice to the omegas. I don't have an issue with them, but with everything that has happened in the last few hours, my mind is reeling. Why would someone poison the punch bowl? Who were they going after? Also, why the hell was Anna covered in purple f*****g flames? All these questions circling in my head, I didn't see where I was walking and walked right into the chest of my father. Great, I thought, just what I need right now, him and his everlasting f*****g questions about some mystery chick.

"Hey son! Back from the party so soon?" he questioned.

"Uh yeah, it got pretty hectic there after a while. I don't know what happened or how it happened, but someone poisoned the punch bowl with wolfsbane."

"You're kidding me and you just left! Why would you just leave? You didn't ingest any, did you? Is everyone with you alright?"

" Everyone got sick and there was nothing I could do. The hosts had everything covered. It was crazy! It happened so fast some people died and some got cut off from their wolves! Why would someone do something like that?"

" I don't know that is a good question, son! Did you happen to run into that female I was talking about earlier?"

I shouldn't be surprised by his question, but of course, my father has no kind of conduct when it comes to something that he wants or is looking for. Of course he doesn't really care about everything being poisoned with wolfsbane.

" I'm not sure, father, it got crazy pretty fast. I didn't get to meet a bunch of females there. "

He looked at me like I had grown three heads. " You didn't see anyone that looked remotely interesting at the ball like I described to you."

" I said I didn't!" I snapped at him, "If this girl was so damn important, why the hell didn't you go to this damn ball and look for her?"

Before I knew it, my cheek was burning and when I looked up I could see my father's eyes had changed and his wolf was at the surface.

"You dare speak to me that way, boy. After everything I have done for you and you couldn't complete this one simple task and have the nerve to talk back to me!' He ground out. "You should be happy that you are still here you ungrateful little brat, so the next time I call on you to do something for me I don't want to hear any complaints at all, or I am throwing your ass in the cells to show you who the real alpha is here. You understand me!"

He glared at me one last time before he turned and stomped off towards his office. I hate that bastard if he wasn't the alpha and I wouldn't get in trouble with the council I would kill him right here and now. I'll just bide my time, I know he is up to something and I won't let him get away with it. When the time is right, I won't let him get away with whatever it is he thinks he's doing.

I climb the stairs to my room and hop into a hot ass shower washing away the nights events. I started thinking about Anna and the purple flames that were surrounding her earlier. Just thinking about her made my c**k start to grow. She was my mate, so beautiful, I groaned as I stroke my c**k.
