Henry knocked and then waited to the count of ten before opening his own door. He wondered what he would find inside. The first thing he noticed was Caro’s dress, hanging over a chair drawn close to the fire. The next thing he noticed was her chemise and corset hanging right next to it. He stumbled to a halt in the middle of his sitting room. If Caro wasn’t wearing any of those things, it begged the question of what she was wearing. His mind produced several dozen fascinating possibilities. Her head popped up over the back of the sofa that stood before the fire, and he saw that what she was wearing was his dressing gown.
