That afternoon, Caro conferred with Fanny over ices at Gunter’s. They didn’t discuss what had happened with Lord Thetford, but they did discuss their two potential leads in the missing amulet. Two men—Richard Cuming and some mysterious prime minister—had met with the thieves and might have additional information. The problem was, she had no idea how to get in touch with Mr. Cuming, nor did she know which prime minister it might be. As best she could count, there were five living men who had served as prime minister at one time or another.
They resolved that Fanny would ask a friend from Southwark to track down Mr. Cuming. And Caro would see if Harrington knew of a prime minister who collected Egyptian antiquities. If she could trust anyone to assist her with a hairbrained schem
