Caro found herself unable to speak. It wasn’t so much that she was having difficulty forming words as difficulty selecting a question when so many were clanging around in her head, fighting for predominance.
Why would Mr. Parkinson congratulate Henry on recovering his stolen amulet? Henry didn’t have a stolen amulet. The one with the missing amulet was her. Henry was looking for his father’s little box. And besides, Henry had told her that nothing had happened at Mr. Cuming’s house.
That his visit had been a waste of time.
