SURRENDER Mason Kingston had spent his life mastering control.Control over his emotions. Control over his empire. Control over life and death itself. But Valerie Grey? She was the one thing he couldn’t control. And that terrified him. He had nearly kissed her, but he pushed himself back. No he couldn't. He shouldn't let that happen,it was just going to complicate things. The last thing he needed right now was complications, especially as he had a lot to deal with from that bastard Bruno. Valerie was insisting, asking him the same questions she did before. She was relentless. She was curious. And he knew she wasn't going to give up without a fight. She sat across from him, her dark eyes unwavering. She had called his bluff, pushed him to the edge, and now she was waiting. Waiting for him to give in. Mason’s fingers curled into a fist. "You don’t understand what you’re asking for." Valerie tilted her head, her voice soft but firm. "Then explain it to me." “I already have Valerie, what more do you want to hear?” He exhaled sharply. "I don’t do attachments. I don’t do this." Her lips quirked. "You don’t do negotiations either, but you did one for me." His jaw tightened. "That was different." Mason was loosing it. He was tired of the questioning from her. He couldn't take it anymore. Valerie leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Was it?" Silence. His pulse pounded. Because he knew the answer. No. It wasn’t different. The room felt smaller. More dangerous. Mason could feel the pull between them, a force he had tried—failed—to ignore. Valerie's eyes flickered to his lips, just for a second, but it was enough. Because something inside him snapped. One second, he was in his chair. Next, he was in front of her. She was had so much power over him. All this happened and he didn't know when, and how the f**k she had such a pull on him. Mason was on the edge,he couldn't take this anymore. Valerie was here, right in front of him, and damn, he couldn't keep his eyes off her. Off her eyes. Off her lips. Off her body. Off every single part of her. She was close. Too close. His hands gripped the arms of her chair, caging her in. "Tell me to stop," he murmured. Valerie’s breath hitched. She didn’t. She just couldn't. His fingers brushed along her jaw, tilting her face up. He saw the way her pupils dilated, the way her lips parted slightly in anticipation. She wanted this. He could see it in her eyes. He should stop. He should walk away. If he left now,he would still be able to stop this from happening. Except, he didn't want to, but he had to. But then she whispered his name. "Mason…" And that was it. Mason couldn't take it anymore. His control shattered. His lips crashed against hers, the force of it stealing the breath from her lungs. It happened so fast she couldn't even comprehend what was happening. It wasn’t soft. It wasn’t gentle. It was a claim. Valerie gasped as his hands tangled in her hair, pulling her closer, deepening the kiss. She pressed against him, her own hands fisting his shirt, as if she needed to hold on. Mason growled against her lips, his body tightening at the way she responded to him. It wasn’t just want. It was need. Raw. Unforgiving. Dangerous. But neither of them pulled away. Not when the kiss grew darker. Not when his hands slid to her waist, gripping her like she was his. Because at that moment, she was. And for the first time in his life— Mason didn’t care about the consequences, he just wanted to be with her at this moment. Maybe he would think about the consequences later. When they finally broke apart, Valerie was breathless. Mason’s forehead rested against hers, his chest rising and falling unevenly. Her fingers were still curled in his shirt, refusing to let go. A million thoughts were running through her head. Mason had just kissed her, and she didn't pull away. She didn't know what this meant for them,it was a whole new feeling, and she was ready to welcome it. She didn't care anymore if these feelings were for the big bad mafia man, all she wanted was to trust him. That didn't sound like her. She had gone from hating him to developing whatever this new feeling was for him. Valerie wondered what was going through his mind. Silence stretched between them, heavy with everything they weren’t saying. Finally, she spoke. "You’re not going to push me away now, are you?" Mason let out a quiet, bitter chuckle. "I should." She reached up, her fingers tracing his jaw. "But you won’t." His heart skipped a bit. No he shouldn't let this happen. It would ruin them both. His grip on her waist tightened. "No," he admitted. "I won’t." He lied. He knew he was going to push her away. But right now, he just wanted to enjoy the moment. And savor holding her close to him because he wasn't going to again. Mason wished that these were under normal circumstances, that she was a normal girl and he was a normal man. But no, it had to be this way. f**k the universe, he thought. Valerie’s heart pounded, but there was no fear. Because she believed that she knew the truth now. Mason Kingston was hers. Or so she hoped. Even if he couldn’t admit it yet.
