Congratulations ma'am. You are pregnant!”
Those words kept ringing in Olivia's mind as she drove home, excitement bubbling inside her. She had just gotten off the phone with her best friend. They had talked for hours about Olivia’s good news. The mere thought of it made her giggle in pure joy. Different scenarios of how her husband, Daniel, would react the moment he found out kept replaying in her mind on repeat.
“He would be so happy!” She thought out loud as her home came into view.
As she parked the car in the driveway, her heart raced. She hopped out and ran to the front door, her mind filled with plans to celebrate together. “This is going to be one hell of a night!” she whispered to herself, her smile wide.
“Daniel!” she called out as she stepped inside, but the house was quiet. She paused and listened.
Then she heard voices coming from the living room.
It sounded like Daniel was with someone. She took off her shoes and rushed to the living room where the voices were coming from.
However, when she walked into the living room, Olivia stopped in her tracks.
The excitement she has been feeling drained from her body as she saw Daniel sitting on the couch with her sister, Quinn in his lap.
He had his hands all over her sister's body and they were kissing so passionately!
“What is the meaning of this?” Olivia demanded, her voice trembling with shock. “Daniel, what is…Quinn?!”
Daniel looked up and his face turned pale. “Olivia, baby, it's not what it looks like.”
“Really?” Olivia shouted, tears clouding her vision. “Because it looks quite clear from where I'm standing, Daniel! I just caught you sucking my sister's face!”
Quinn smirked, unfazed. “Oh please, Olivia. You need to take a chill pill. It's not even that deep.” She flipped her hair and stepped closer to them.
“It isn't that…Quinn, this is my husband!!” Olivia yelled and felt anger surge inside her. “You’re my sister! And you were just making out with my husband. How dare you?!”
“Look, relax Olivia, you really need to chill. He came to me and I couldn't turn down a handsome damsel in distress,” Quinn shot back, crossing her arms. “He obviously couldn't get what he needed from you so he came looking for me. You should learn how to keep your man satisfied sis or else he's going to run outside seeking for it elsewhere.”
“Shut up!” Olivia blurred out, unable to hear the rubbish that was coming out of her sister's mouth.
“You should be thanking me, you know? What if he had gone outside, to some other woman we don't know.”
“Shut your f*****g mouth!” Olivia’s screamed as she struggled to process the betrayal. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
She couldn't believe she had come here to give him such good news only to see this.
It was supposed to have been a happy moment for them.
Daniel stood up and stepped toward her, his expression unreadable. “I made a mistake Olivia. Please, let’s talk about this.”
His words felt like a punch to the gut. “Talk? You think that can fix this?”
“Just give me a second chance. I’ll do better! Please” Daniel begged, his voice shaky.
Taking a deep breath, Olivia felt the weight of her decision. She thought about the baby growing inside her. She didn’t want to raise a child in a broken home. She couldn't loose the love of her life too. It would hurt her so much.
After a long pause, she finally spoke. “Fine, I’ll give you another chance.”
For the baby. She whispered this to herself.
Quinn’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You can’t be serious! You’re just going to let this go?”
Olivia glared at her sister. “What do you care? You’ve already made your choice!”
“Whatever,” Quinn said with a roll of her eyes.
Feeling a rush of mixed emotions, Olivia turned away from them. Her heart felt heavy.
She didn’t want to forgive him so easily but the thought of losing her family scared her.
She didn't want her child to be raised without a father. Perhaps Daniel would change once the child came.
“Nothing is going to happen to our family, little one” She muttered as she patted her tummy.
Later that evening, Olivia found herself in the kitchen, preparing dinner but her mind was racing and she couldn't concentrate on cooking as she thought about everything that had happened.
The time when she saw Quinn and Daniel kissing like they were passionate lovers made her feel a stinging pain in her chest.
Suddenly, she heard the kitchen door open behind her.
Olivia sighed. “I don’t want to talk right now,” she said without turning around.
“Oh, come on, Olivia,” Quinn said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “You think everything will just go back to normal? What are you thinking? I'll have you know that Daniel is all mine. He doesn't love you anymore so why are you still insisting on staying?”
“Why are you trying to pick a fight with me?” Olivia turned to face her sister, feeling frustration build up inside her. “You should feel guilty for what you've done!” She whispered as tears pooled in her eyes.
“Guilty? Not really,” Quinn replied, crossing her arms as the smirk on her face returned. “You’re the one who wants him back. Don’t act like this is such a big deal.”
“Because it is!” Olivia shouted, her anger spilling out. “You are supposed to be my sister! You think it’s okay to take my husband?”
Quinn stepped closer, taunting her. “Maybe you just shouldn’t have neglected him. Not my fault if he found someone who pays attention.”
The tension in the room thickened, and Olivia felt her blood boil. “Shut up! You don’t get to say that.”
“Why not? You’re okay with him, so why shouldn’t I be?” Quinn shot back, glaring at Olivia and invading her space.
As their argument heated up, Olivia turned away to leave the kitchen, feeling overwhelmed. But just then, her foot slipped on a puddle of water on the floor that she didn’t see.
“Ahhhhh!” she screamed as she lost her balance.
She fell hard onto her stomach, hitting the ground with a thud. Pain shot through her, and panic filled her mind. “Oh no! My baby!” she thought as fear took over.
Breathing became difficult, and Olivia felt herself fading. She squeezed her eyes shut and opened them to find Quinn staring at her as if there was nothing happening.
“Get help! My baby is–”
Quinn snickered as she stared down at her.
“Do you think that I really care b***h? You and that thing can die for all I care.” She sneered.
“P–please.”
Quinn ignored her until there was a little puddle of blood around Olivia then rushed out of the room screaming for help and Daniel.
“My baby!” Olivia muttered as she struggled to keep her eyes open.
She could hear voices calling her name, but it all felt so far away.
She focused only on the worry that filled her heart. Would her baby be okay? Would she wake up? Those thoughts ate at her till the darkness completely took over.
