After being sedated I realized my stay had probably been extended when I found myself awake at night, this time the angry woman was smiling. Hanging from the ceiling upside down, her face confronted mine. I suppressed the urge to scream bloody murder knowing if I did I'd be forced to stay a little longer or wheeled down to the psych ward which I'd found out from my daily night strolls that it was only one stair down.
“Tsk. Tsk. Still here” She notes, her deep voice sending chills all over my body. I look away. She sways back and forth matching the ‘tik tik tik’ of the clock on the wall.
“What have you done to my legs” I whisper “They aren't mine”
“Oh child, I don't interfere with humans. The question is, what has happened to you?” She cackles for a bit as I watched her unfazed “Go back to where it all started and you'll find the answers”
“How? I can't even walk” I say to no one, she had already vanished. Smelling the familiar disgusting scent I realized why she had to go. Nothing stays when the footsteps start except for the boy who stopped me from warning the man. I had never seen him again.
Tonight, the footsteps paused on my door so long that I had fallen asleep, and when I woke up my toes wiggled.
