3. Annoyance

Mia let out a long sigh before she massaged her forehead. "I don't know if I will ever be ready for marriage. I'm just trying to finish high school with you. It's all I ask for even without my family nagging me to hurry up with the marriage process." She leaned her head down onto Henna's shoulders in a tight embrace. "Can't you just be with me for the rest of my life? With you by my side, I feel that it's all I need." Henna was a bit stunted by Mia's statement. True, they had both been very close ever since middle school. Sharing almost everything they have and always looking out for each other. Amitus had been a big part of their friendship as well, until high school came and then both of their parents announced their engagement. Mia, being the heiress to her family's overseas cosmetics empire, grew up learning ways to best support her role in the near future. The only time she was able to be herself and relax was with Henna and Amitus. Now she wasn't so sure how to approach him as her soon-to-be husband after graduation. "I, I appreciate you telling me that. Truly, but I know that you can't hide your feelings from me. You have had a crush on Amitus for a while now. It's just that now you actually have a chance to be with him for the rest of your life. How can that be a bad thing? " Henna tried to encourage her friend while patting her back. "But he's not you. He isn't my best friend. " Mia looked up and into Henna's eyes, then avoided her questioning gaze. "He's not someone who I can share all of my feelings with. He's always pestering me and is so hard-headed." "Then you can learn to love each other. Is that not the point of being in a relationship? To understand each other and accept their flaws. I've seen the way you and Amitus look at each other. You can't lie and say that you have no feelings for him. When you clearly do. Give the guy a chance to prove himself." Henna cupped Mia's face gently, turning her head to face her. Henna smiled mischievously as an idea hit her. She raised a teasing eyebrow at her. "If you can't face Amitus at the moment, I can whisk you away, and he can never find you again. You did say that you would rather be with me for the rest of your life." For a second, Mia's eyes sparkled in surprise. It soon faded as to let out a deep sigh. "I want nothing more than to do that, but I can't. We should probably head to class now." Hand in hand, both of them walked down the hall and blended in with the other students. As they neared the entrance to their class, Amitus stood outside the classroom door. "You're late," Amitus said in his firm, deep voice while eyeing Mia with a frown. "If I was late, you wouldn't be standing outside the door." Mia responded in kind. She brushed past him with hands still entangled in Henna's. Amitus sighed loudly and said, "I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for Henna, you would be late like usual." He looked at Henna with an understanding look, and Henna only chuckled. Nodding her head in agreement. "How could you take his side, Henna? I thought you were supposed to be my best friend," Mia said accusingly as she let go of Henna's hand. Her lips pouted out as she crossed her arms across her chest. "Oh, don't be so upset," Henna pinched Mia's pouting cheeks as she swatted her hand away gently. "You know he was right. Now quit being such a baby, and let's go. You to Amitus." She grabbed Mia's wrist and then turned around to grab Amitus's wrist as well. She pulled her two best friends towards class. The two of them couldn't help but smile at each other and look at their friend in front of them with affection. After the fourth hour was over, they headed to the cafeteria to get food. One thing about going to a prestigious rich school is that their lunch menu was the best that money could buy. Today was especially Henna's favorite dish; shrimp fettuccine carbonara, a side of fresh greens, and zuppa toscana soup. Feeling giddy after receiving her food, she thanked the servers, and the three of them walked to their usual table to eat their lunches. "I'm going to miss eating school food after we graduate from here. Nothing beats the food served at this school." Henna took a big bite of her pasta and drank some of her soup. "I say, nothing beats the food that your mom makes when we visit on the weekend and holiday breaks," Mia announced after taking a bite of her club sandwich. "I would give anything to have another bite of your mom's pastries from her shop," Amitus said as he cut a piece of steak and ate it. "Who would have thought that such a big guy like you would love sweets so much." Mia chuckled as she finished her food. "Henna, do you think I could visit your house on the weekend?" "I believe my mom would love that, actually. Amitus, you should come over as well. I just have to call my mom to see if she will be available this weekend. With only one month left of school, I feel like it will be hard to see the two of you after you both get married." All of them were silent for a while before someone interrupted them. "Sorry to intrude on your conversation during lunch. Amitus, your father, called to meet you in the main office." The young man in front of them was also a student in their school. With platinum blonde hair and sharp blue eyes, he was in training to become Amitus secretary and advisor. When it was time for Amitus to take over his family's business, the biggest hotel franchise was named Inspire. He would be his right-hand man. "Thanks for ruining the rest of my lunch, Stephan. Can't I spend some leisure time enjoying lunch with my friend and fiancée?" Amitus set his fork and knife down on the table and leaned back in his chair. He was in thought for a time before he turned to look at Henna. "I will consider whether I can make it to your house this weekend or not. Thank you for inviting me, Henna." Amitus smiled warmly at her as she smiled back, fully understanding his situation. He then stood up and grabbed his plate with one hand. Then he walked to Mia's side and took her hand to his lips, and kissed the back of her knuckles." I will see you soon enough, bye Mia." Mia blushed red as she quickly drew her hands away, as if his hands were hot iron. She nodded her head and busily ate the rest of her soup and sandwich. Henna could only cover her mouth and giggle at their exchange. Amitus was really trying hard to win her favor. He had asked Henna the first few weeks when they had been informed of their engagement to see if Mia liked him. She had reassured him that she was interested in him, but he would have to be the one to win her over. She did give him some tips and tricks that he could use, but it seemed it only made her more nervous. It only goes to say that it worked a little too well. Henna silently mouthed, "good luck" to him before he left with Stephan. When the both of them finally got out of sight, Henna elbowed Mia in the side. "And you were so worried about getting married to him. He's trying his best to please you. " "That's exactly why I am worried. He's trying too hard, when I'm hardly trying at all," Mia said between clenched teeth as she jabbed her soup bowl with her spoon. "I'm just not ready. Taking over my family business is hard enough and, on top of that, I also have to please my husband as well. Ugh, I don't know what to do anymore." "So you're admitting to him becoming your husband then." Henna wiggled her eyebrows at her friend. "Oh, stop it you. If you're just going to keep on taking his side, I'm leaving." She picked up her plates and headed toward the dish return area. "I was just kidding, wait for me Mia," she said while gathering her dishes and ran to catch up with her. For the remaining two classes, they both had different subjects and departments. While Amitus and Mia were in each other's classroom. "I will make sure to come pick you up from your classroom after class with Amitus like usual," Mia looked at her watch for the time. "There's no need for either of you to pick me up from class. I wouldn't want to disrupt the lovely couples' alone time. " "That's it, enough of the jokes and little suggestions. I'll make time for him, so stop it already. It's getting annoying," Mia declared as she stomped away. "At least you know. Have fun then and don't be out too late." Henna called out to her as she turned in the other direction to her class. She dialed her mother's number on her phone and when her mother answered she asked, "Hi mom, are you available this weekend? Mia and Amitus wanted to come over before the graduation. "
