CHAPTER FOURTEEN Tuesday nights at Downtown, if this was typical, were a more subdued affair than Fridays. The club was almost full, but the clientele sat staring into their drinks or chatting desultorily. It was hard to let your hair down when you knew you had to front up to work the next day. Even the band was more restrained—just a three piece band playing a crossover of jazz and blues.
