Since they didn’t go back to their cabin, Steph and Annika were the first on the patio for dinner. They’d barely sat down when Gittie appeared.
“Thank you so much for what you did out there on the trail today.” She bent down and briefly hugged Steph. “I owe you big time.”
“Don’t worry about it. With horses you never know when s**t is going to happen.”
“True.” Gittie straightened back up and they exchanged a brief look of understanding. “I would’ve had Velinda fry up a big steak for you, but—”
“Yeah, no, please don’t do that.”
“Don’t worry. I’ve come up with something else already.”
She went back inside and Steph turned to Annika, determined to keep this light. “Makes you worry, doesn’t it? No telling what crazy thing these Texans are going to come up with.”
