Rachel and Dirk headed for the greenhouses. In the last few weeks at the nursery, she’d mastered weeding and repotting with Josh and how to strike cuttings with Ray. Now Dirk wanted to teach her to graft fruit trees.
“How do you like working with Josh?” Dirk asked.
“He’s great. Completely uncomplicated.”
“People thought I was mad when I hired him, but now they envy me. He’s nearly always happy, never complains, and works like a champion.”
“And you didn’t stop at one guy like him.”
Dirk laughed. “Having Josh here opened my eyes. Others his age are mostly sitting at home and worrying their parents. Here, they grow in confidence and get a real sense of accomplishment.
