16 Esther and Naomi barely saw Rachel that first Sunday. They ate breakfast. Esther did the dishes. She tidied the kitchen. She went to check if any clothes needed washing. Nope. Then she looked at her watch. It was only ten o’clock. All she wanted to do was talk to her sister. But the study door remained firmly closed. What was Rachel doing in there? When would she come out? Esther grabbed a book and sat on the verandah in the sunshine. She read one page and then read it again. And again. Nothing penetrated. She closed the book and stared at the sky.
