Chapter 4

The entire private room went silent for three seconds. Eric looked at me like I had just told the funniest joke in the world. "Seriously? You're not leaving? Don't tell me you're planning to stay here and mooch off everyone for this meal?" Flora rolled her eyes and walked over to Eric, wrapping her arm around his. "Eric, don't waste your breath on someone like her. Just call the waiter and have her thrown out. Looking at her is ruining my appetite." I took out my phone and calmly sent a message. The upscale restaurant was actually a wholly owned dining brand under Sterling Department Store. I put my phone away and looked at Eric and Flora. Then I let out a cold laugh. "Eric, you said that car key was a brand-new car the CEO gave you, right?" I leaned back in my chair. "Then how do you explain the two-millimeter-deep scratch on the metal clasp? Do you really think the CEO of Sterling Department Store would give her so-called favorite employee a key from an old company vehicle that's already close to being scrapped?" My voice wasn't loud. But every word landed clearly. "And those so-called Supreme VIP Black Cards of yours...They don't even have basic anti-counterfeit holograms. The edges are rough, like cheap plastic. They don't even contain chips." I smiled faintly. "Are these supposed to be exclusive VIP cards? Or are they just defective scraps sold by the pound at a recycling center?" The color drained from Eric's face. A flicker of panic flashed through his eyes, but he quickly forced himself to calm down. "Bullshit!" His voice rose as he tried to cover his guilt. "What would someone as poor and clueless as you know about custom-made luxury items? This is a limited edition, specially designed piece!" I ignored his desperate shouting. My eyes moved to the necklace around Flora's neck. "As for this necklace..." I stood up and slowly walked toward her. "This is an extremely rare pink diamond. The vine pattern on the chain contains a private engraving that belongs only to the owner." I stopped in front of them. "Eric, who do you think you are? You seriously expect me to believe the CEO gave you a personal piece like this as a reward?" My voice became sharper. "I think the truth is much simpler. You didn't get it from any CEO's private safe. You stole it. You took advantage of your security rounds, sneaked around where you weren't supposed to be, and walked away with someone else's property. This is stolen." Flora's expression changed instantly. She rushed toward me in her high heels. Looking at my old clothes, her eyes were filled with pure contempt. "Chloe, have you lost your mind? How dare you accuse Eric of something like that?" She raised her hand. The strong scent of her perfume filled the air as she swung toward my face. I didn't move. Not even an inch. The moment her hand was about to hit me, I grabbed her wrist with perfect accuracy. "Let go of me!" Flora struggled desperately. "You broke, pathetic loser!" I twisted my hand. Then I slapped her across the face. The sound echoed through the entire room. It was so sharp that it drowned out all the noise around us. Flora stumbled backward, clutching her face as she screamed. Eric completely lost control. He pulled the fake black card from his wallet and held it high in the air. "How dare you hit my fiancée!" His face twisted with rage. "I am the CEO's most trusted person! I am an executive at Sterling Department Store! Today, I will make sure this crazy woman gets arrested!" At that moment, the heavy double doors of the private room were suddenly pushed open. The general manager of restaurant, Brian Ward, walked in with a group of fully equipped security guards dressed in black. The heavy footsteps instantly silenced the entire room. When Eric saw the restaurant manager, it was like he had seen his savior. He immediately rushed forward, holding up the black card. "Mr. Ward! You're here at the perfect time! I'm Eric Cook from Sterling Department Store. This crazy woman not only refuses to pay the bill, she also attacked someone! Get her out of here right now!" But before he could finish speaking, Brian didn't even spare him a glance. He walked straight past Eric, straight toward me. In front of all my former classmates, and in front of Eric's horrified expression, Brian bent forward at a perfect ninety-degree angle. Then, with a loud and respectful voice, he said, "President Halls!"
