I was stupidly gawking out the window of my bedroom, my fingers tapping nervously against the frame as I tried to process what Donna had wanted from me all along. The dark forest beyond my yard seemed endless, like a mirror to my growing frustration and confusion. “Donna… why are you doing this to me?” I yelled aloud, my voice echoing into the night. “He’s your mate, and they’re your pack. So why… why would you give them to me?! To someone with such an unfortunate life?!” Only the sound of crickets answered. My sigh echoed in the still air as I continued tapping, hoping some answer would fall from the darkness. After several long minutes staring at nothing but swaying treetops, I resigned.
