CHAPTER 20: BREAKFAST

I almost jumped out of bed, my heart hammering as I remembered last night—talking to Alpha Dwight. My messy hair clung to my forehead, tangled and sticky from sleep. I tugged at it, trying to straighten myself, but my hands trembled slightly. Maybe I had let my guard down too much while talking to him. Maybe… I had actually enjoyed it. I scanned the room frantically, half-expecting him to still be lying on my bed. But he wasn’t there. My gaze darted to the desk, the chair, even the window ledge. Nothing. He was gone. Exhaling a frustrated sigh, I scratched the nape of my neck, sulking. Damn it… I missed my chance to cut ties with him. I had gotten too carried away with our conversation, letting his teasing words disarm me completely. My plan to reject him had failed before it even began.
