CHAPTER 8: THE DISCOVERY Rosie thought she was finally getting over Alex’s cheating. She had been spending time with friends and family, working on herself, and trying to start over. But she didn’t know that her recovery would soon take a big turn for the worse. It happened that Rosie was running errands. She stopped by a coffee shop for a quick cup of coffee. She then saw Emma, a friend of a friend, who was looking through her phone at her table nearby. Rosie was about to leave, until she saw the picture on Emma’s phone. It was a picture of Alex with another man. Rosie’s heart sank. She didn’t want to believe what she was seeing, but the closer she looked, she saw that it was indeed Alex. Emma looked up and saw Rosie standing there, which surprised her. “Hey, Rosie!” She asked, “ What’s going on?” Rosie tried to calm down so she wouldn’t make a scene. She forced a smile and said, “Not much, just getting a coffee.” But Rosie still felt uneasy as she left the coffee shop. She started to wonder if Alex had other men in his life and if she had just been a cover for him. Rosie had a lot of doubts and questions going through her mind. Even though she thought she had moved on, the news had reopened all of her old wounds. Rosie thought about all the times she had told her friends and family, “ I’ve moved on,” as she made her way home. In actuality, though, she hadn’t changed at all. She continued to live in the memories of her time spent with Alex. Rosie came to the realisation that she was over Alex while living in denial. However, reality had hit her hard after the discovery. She wasn’t over Alex, she wasn’t sure if she would ever be. The rest of the day was just a blur for Rosie. She did what she had to do, but her mind was on Alex and how he had cheated on her. She couldn’t get rid of the hurt and betrayal she felt. Rosie began to dig deeper as the days went by, trying to find out who Alex really is. She looked through social media accounts for clues and hints to help her find out more. Then she came upon it: a post from one of Alex’s friends discussing spending a night out with him and another man. Rosie was devastated to learn that Alex’s a******y was far more widespread than she had first thought. She was finding out everyday. She wondered if she would be able to get over the pain and suffering Alex had caused her. Rosie’s obsession with Alex’s a******y only deepened as the days turned into weeks. He and the men he had dated were on her mind constantly. She felt ad though she was losing herself in the process, but she was powerless to stop it. Rosie knew she needed to find a way to move on. But the more she sees or hear anything about Alex, the more she felt dragged back into the past. Rosie had been awakened by the discovery. She came to the realisation that she had to prioritise her own recovery and take care of herself. Rosie wondered if she will always be plagued by the memories of Alex’s a******y. The thought sent a shiver down her spine. The only way for her to move on is for her to sit down with Alex and talk about it. But Rosie does not want to hear a thing from Alex.
