Naledi had preferences when it came men. She was used to the neat, trim and smart type at her office. Image was very important to her. They had to be well-presented or well-groomed, those who often wore slim suits to work, communicating a clear message of taste, position and power. Dapper and immaculate gentlemen were her type.
Yet for some reason she was intrigued by this individual. His sense of dress and hairstyle could be something she was not accustomed to, but it did not take away the quality that seemed to surround him.
He radiated masculinity and mental prowess. He did not have to try hard, it just came naturally.
Curiously she asked, “so, Kay what do you do for a living”
That was a complete twist to the discussion, he stared at her thinking of what to tell her.
“I’m an entrepreneur” that was all he disclosed.
“What about you, I’m guessing that you are from the corporate world.” He observed.
I’m an Economist and I work for an international organization.” She replied and reached into her bag, looked through her purse, took out her business card and gave it to him. He was glad to accept it.
He was taken aback, for the first time suddenly he felt subservient.
From their chat he was cognizant of how smart she was but he was not aware that she was actually this brilliant. It seemed tables were now turned, the woman was proving to be more than he bargained for.
Their food was served.
As they dined, he studied her. She was sitting upright though not unnaturally stiff giving her a straight posture. She closed her mouth as she chewed and swallowed before she commented or responded to his probing questions.
He was gazing at her mouth yet again, he seemed obsessed with it. She noticed his stare and that made her uncomfortable. She folded the napkin at the corner outward and dabbed her mouth.
Upon realizing how intently he had been staring at her lips he smiled at her apologetically.
He found her demeanor affable. She was friendly, good natured and easy to talk to. She was confident but not in an arrogant way. She smiled a lot and looked him in the eye when she talked to him, something he found appealing.
Other than her gorgeous body, her hairstyle impressed him the most. For a woman to pull it off and rock the type of hairstyle, it took self-esteem and indeed she was a cut above the rest.
He could not help but feel admiration for the beauty opposite him.
After their meal it was time to leave. He signaled the waiter for the bill. When it was placed on the table, her reaction shocked him.
She reached for her handbag and took out some notes and placed the money on the table.
Kay swooned over the gesture.
“Allow me please” he gently covered her hand with his. He was overwhelmed by his admiration for her.
After settling the bill. They made their way down. He made sure this time he was walking in front of her as they descended the stairs. He wanted to aid her and he would be in a better position to catch her if she stumbled.
He slowed down his pace for her. Her hand unconsciously rested on his shoulder
He delighted in that. He felt a sense of pride with her by his side.
Kay was at a loss for words, all these feelings were new to him. What was he getting himself into, what was he thinking? He mused and was getting concerned.
He had to act fast otherwise things would get out hand. All of a sudden she was making him weak. A turmoil of strange feelings were not what he would consider appropriate for him. He felt like he was losing control, losing himself. So many emotions in just one day, few hours for that matter, some feelings he could not even fathom. It was getting messy.
He had to extricate himself from this entanglement. His life had no room for affection.
Just then an idea crossed his mind. What he was about to do was going to be an excuse to clear his guilty conscience since he was already feeling guilty about what he contemplated doing to her. Her response would determine the outcome. If she was like the rest she would deserve to be treated as such. Deep down, he knew that he was lying to himself.
He accompanied her to the car. He mused over what to say to her.
He was not surprised to see the type of car she drove, classy!
She rummaged through her hand bag to retrieve the car keys.
He put his plan into motion.
“Let me quickly call a cab before I see you off since I do not have a car” he requested.
To his utmost dismay, she quickly dismissed his idea of calling a cab and offered him a ride.
“I had a lovely evening and enjoyed myself thanks to you. This is the least I can do, please let me give you a ride and drop you off” she offered.
He was bewildered, he did not expect such a response. It seemed he had no avenue.
Nevertheless, he still had to make a call to take care of some things. When he was done with his call he went over to her and waited for what he anticipated, but the prying questions never came.
He could not help but wondered about the development of the day's events. No matter how hard he tried to dissuade himself from her, there seemed to be a supernatural power predetermining.
He had thought there was going to be an element of disappointment from her, upon learning that he had no car. She was not even bothered if he owned one or not, she was indifferent. What was worse, she offered him a ride in her car.
Kay was defeated! He got into the car and gave in to fate.
He could have gone to his usual housing in town where he entertained everyone including his string of girls. For some reason, he did not want her to mingle and be part of that. He shook his head when he realized what he was doing, yet again.
Instead he decided to be dropped in a different place, his reserved residence.
