Chapter 11

888 Words
Kay was the Kingpin as such he had absolute control over the members of the organisation. As much as he was greatly respected, push him into a corner, his retaliation would be deadly. He rewarded loyalists, but if there was anything he abhorred the most, it was members who betrayed the circle. The organisation’s structure was well organised and complex with many ranks. They had members in the security forces, high ranking government officials, judges and officers from customs, immigration and any other institution they felt was necessary to infiltrate, even the banks were not left out. All these people were under their payroll and were to safe guard the interests of the organisation. Then there was Gee, the second in command who was known as “the boss” although in actual sense he was an under boss. He saw to the discipline and dealt severely with sell outs. His muscular well-built physique gave out a ‘no nonsense guy’ quality. The five hours of training daily at the gym could be attributed to this. Some people often jumped up from his sudden appearance. Due to his agility and light walk he could enter a room so swift that one would not even be aware of his presence. Most members even thought that he had teleporting abilities and could be transported across space and distance instantly. He was omniscient, had eyes everywhere and knew everything. His cyberespionage and his meticulous Intel gained him access to a lot of information that was often used to their advantage. There were many rumours around him, the popular one being that he killed a lion with his bare hand and single-handedly when they were out camping with Kay during their Safari tour. The three facial scars on his face, running across his left cheek from the ear to the corner of his mouth fuelled up the rumour with some purporting it to be from the lion’s paw. He was demonised and he knew that he was feared. Then, there was the second underboss known as ‘Counsellor’. He was an analyst, be it politically, market wise and even psychoanalysis was his area. He was the Chief Executive Officer as such, the face of the group of companies under the enterprise. The success of the organisation could partly be attributed to him because he was savvy. This was the guy who dealt with official matters, bribes and recruitment of high ranking officials. The organisation was mostly known for its call and acts of benevolence. It was not a violent organisation unless there was a serious threat and had to act for its protection and existence to defend their territory from any form of hostility. The three of them were the administration with the two reporting directly to Kay. He gave directions and instructions to the two since they were the ones running the day to day operations. Most importantly they were the insulation between Kay and the rest of the world. Whenever he gave out orders, he did that through these two. The orders in turn would be passed down to the lower structures thus making it impossible for the police to directly implicate Kay. Captains were in charge of regions. With each having ‘foot soldiers’ working under them. These soldiers were the ones on the ground, the sellers and recruiters. They were the eyes and ears of the organisation, the ones who also pushed the merchandise. If it so happened that one of them gets caught, they would be on their own. The oath of silence they took when joining the enterprise was binding and revered. Only the two underbosses could decide on the recommendation by the captains in deciding to accept or reject a recruit to join the organisation. This would often be achieved through an intense and rigorous probing into the life of the recruit.                                                                                        *** When the Counsellor decided to celebrate his birthday in style, Kay was not keen on attending it. He always kept his life quiet, away from the fast life of girls and booze. He knew for sure there was going to be a lot of stunning women and most of them having had a brief encounter with. After Naledi, he did not even think he could look twice at another woman. He was very content and if what he was feeling for her was anything to go by, he would think he was deep into her. When he put his second in command in charge of her security, tracking her movements and activities, deep down he knew it was not just for security reasons but the real reason was jealousy! The thought of his Star with any other and not him drove him to insanity. She was his alone. The realization had hit hard at his core. He had lost himself in her. Gee saw the party as an opportunity to put his well-orchestrated plan into motion. He must encourage Kay to attend the party, not alone but with her. As head of security and logistics, he was to ensure that the invitation list was scrutinized and that fitted well with his plan. There was only one thing left, to ensure that Kay attends with Naledi.
