Chapter 6

Kay got up from the bed, went over to his desk and flipped open his laptop. He had earlier downloaded and saved her profile from the dating site. Since he took a tremendous liking to it, he saved it on his desktop for easy access. He sat down and took his time perusing it, scheming and thinking of ways that would make him sweep her off her feet. Her profile stated that she was a hopeless romantic, chivalrous men were her weakness, she loved nature and travelling. Her hobbies were gardening and baking. She enjoyed dining and wining as well. With a mischievous smile he knew how to woo her. Based on what he read it was safe to deduce that she was more inclined to the old fashioned values or ways, he was going to write her an email. He was already in a sentimental part of himself, so deep into it that he was in touch with his emotions. He did not even stop to think or consider what he wanted to say to her. He allowed his feelings to surface and take control of the keyboard as he typed away. When he was done, he clicked send… He had one more thing to request which a couple of calls could sort no matter the time. These were his people, he made them. After giving them the address, he was satisfied. A lingering smile played on his lips as he laid on his bed looking at the ceiling which was the only trace of light paint in his otherwise dark room. Her business card came handy after all.                                                                                         *** She was late in the morning. She did not sleep well at night. After the shower she had gone straight to bed. Unfortunately she tossed and turned throughout the night. He invaded her dreams and at some point she woke up feeling very aroused. She recalled the vivid dream; his locks framed his face, it was his sharp jaw line that gave him a valiant look. His dark eyes penetrating into her soul. She was spellbound. When she finally managed to catch some sleep, it was in the wee hours of the morning. By the time she stepped out of the house, she had twenty minutes to make it to the office on time. Fortunately for her she did not stay that far from the office. She barely made it on time to the office. Hardly five minutes at her desk, her secretary knocked at her door with a beaming smile on her face. She was carrying a large bouquet of flowers. There were red, pink, coral and lavender roses mixed with green leaves for contrast. They were artistically arranged in a clear bowl vase. The bouquet was ravishingly romantic. “This delivery just came in now and it is for you” the secretary announced, placing them by the mini conference table and watching with amusement as her hands flew up to cover her mouth in disbelief. She walked around her desk and could not wait to read the note. The Secretary slipped away unnoticed to give her privacy. She was hoping they were from him, “Please let it be him” Part of her doubted because by the time they parted the previous day it was already late. If indeed they were from him, how did he manage because, most shops even then were still closed? Her heart sank at the realization that it could not possibly be him who sent the flowers. She hoped it was not Terence, the Senior Manager from the human resources department whom despite being married still insisted on pursuing her. She honestly could not stand such people who had no respect for their marriages. She closed her eyes briefly as if she was saying a quick prayer. With shaking hands she took the note card and read it. “Dreaming of you made my night, thinking of you makes me smile,” she blinked back the tears of joy that threatened to spill and continued reading. “I can’t help it, I’m smitten” She dropped on the chair and allowed herself to be swept away. It was him… She sat there, numb and lost in the feelings. Another knock at the door brought her to her senses. She shook her head to clear her mind. The files which were dropped at her desk needed her attention. How was she going to cope without being distracted by thoughts of him? It was habitual for her to check emails first thing every morning before she got immersed in her job. She remembered that she had not yet done that. She quickly opened her inbox and went through them, the first email, although the email address was new to her, she clicked to open. It read; “I do not know how you do what you do, I cannot get you out of my mind. Your face, lips and that bright smile of yours, I find myself wanting you, needing you. How you have warmed my cold heart remains a mystery to me. How about dinner on Saturday, my place?” It was signed ‘Kay’ How romantic! Her response to the email was brief and to the point. She replied “It is a date. See you then. Thank you for the lovely flowers” She inserted a hugging face emoji.                                                                                            *** Naledi could not wait to spend the evening with him. She was tantalized and blown away by his old fashioned ways of expressing his affection. He kept on dazzling her and since the day she received flowers, she had been on cloud nine. It was the small little things he did. He would randomly text just to remind her that he was thinking of her. She intended to use the dinner as an opportunity for both of them to learn more about each other, she was going to let her guard down and go with the flow. Even if it meant giving in to her urges. She still had a lot of questions where he was concerned. Because the weather was warm she chose a simple, wrinkle resistant sleeveless dress that hugged her figure. Since the dinner date was at his home she thought against a posh dress. Besides she wanted to let loose. When she got to the farm he was eagerly waiting for her. He quickly rushed to open the door. He gave her a tight hug before kissing her on the forehead and invited her in. The savoury aroma in the kitchen made her mouth to water. She was famished and could not wait to eat. He had already set up a buffet style on top of the kitchen island. He took her hand and led her to the veranda. She gasped at the sight before her.
