Naledi was glad when the official part of the event ended. Speeches were kept short and when it was time for dinner she was glad their table was the first to help themselves to the scrumptious meal.
Her stomach had growled the entire time and at some point Kay was concerned and amused at the same time when he heard the rumbling sound. He wanted to break the protocol and whisk her away to get something to eat.
She brushed the idea off and decided to endure it all.
She had a bad habit of skipping a meal whenever she had a function or dinner.
During dinner there was the live performance as the jazz group serenaded the guests with their popular songs.
The Counsellor sealed the dinner with a toast. Then he did his round as he greeted and chatted with the guests.
Most people were socializing and exchanging pleasantries.
The jazz band had cleared up and left the stage.
Suddenly the mood changed. It was the second part of the evening. Lights were turned low as the DJ took his place and did the mix. He was playing some dancehall.
The crowd was enjoying the music. People were already flooding the dance floor.
The mood was electrifying and the party was getting lit.
Naledi wanted to stretch her legs and mingle with the crowd. Although Kay would have preferred otherwise, he chose to follow her when she got up to get a drink herself.
The bar was situated at the back and it was open for anyway who wanted to order for themselves.
She was dying for a glass of Gin and Tonic. She was not really a fan of bubblies.
What could have been few seconds to the bar took longer. Now and then Kay would stop to greet some ladies who had the audacity to shout out his name.
With a fixed smile, he would even greet those who were not ashamed to deliberately bump on to him and then act surprised upon realising it was him.
Now and then he would make a curtsy here and there in the form of greeting.
He was at his best behaviour as he politely chatted and excused himself.
By the time he joined his lady at the bar, he was already uncomfortable and wished for the evening to end.
“It seems you are popular with the ladies tonight”
What was meant to be an observation came out as a bold statement.
Kay cringed and pretended to ignore the remark. He honestly had no words to respond. The mighty Kay running out of words…
“Kay, did you hear what I just said?” She retorted.
Kay sensed a hint of jealousy and had no choice but to allay her fears.
“Yes, it would seem so, but honestly speaking, most of them I don’t really know their names and don’t even remember where I met them.”
At least that part he was being honest.
“Star, you have to understand that I have helped a lot of people in the past and still doing that even now.”
“Oh Kay… you are such an incredible person. No wonder it is you I chose” She lovingly stroked his cheek.
“Most of them are now established and running their own businesses”, he added hoping to score some more points with her.
“No wonder I fell for you.” She casually said that, turned around and leaned against the counter to place their orders.
Kay’s jaws dropped as the bombshell she just dropped on him registered.
“She has actually fallen for me, My Star loves me?” His heart leaped out of his chest at the realisation of that.
Without thinking he grabbed her and she fell into his arms. Turning her around, impulsively he crashed his lips onto hers.
At that point in time, he did not give a damn to anyone who could be watching.
At first she was stunned by his boldness but she soon gave in to his kisses.
When he finally let go, she was out of breath. “What was that for?”
“It’s my expression to show how much you mean to me” He gave her a dazzling smile that made her weak on the knees. She took a seat by the bar stool lest she crumbled to the ground.
As she sipped on her GnT she was enjoying the thrill of the music. She looked at Kay through her eyelashes. He seemed to be deep in thought.
“Babe, you seem bored. I know this is not your kind of thing. But please loosen up tonight, just for me…”
How could he deny her that especially when she batted her eyelashes at him the way she was doing. She damn knew that it got to him every time.
Just then the crowd went crazy.
Yeah ah ah
Brick and lace inna di place
Yuh love is wicked, wicked wicked
Kill ‘em
That was her jam! She jumped off the stool and pulled Kay to his feet. He was amused at her exuberance.
He gladly obliged and allowed himself to be dragged as he followed his lady to the dance floor. He was enjoying this side of her.
She was singing along and knew the song lyrics, word for word.
Running around I can’t get through my day (you feel me)
Thoughts of you just keep consuming me (inna mi head, inna mi head okay) And I
Thought I could do it but now I see
That you're not mine
And I was wrong to think you'd change, yeah
I wish you could stay with me another day (ay)
I wish I could change your mind and make you stay (stay)
'Cause I, I'd give anything to hear you say (say)
I'll be loving you eternally (love you eternally)
Your love is wicked
Tears on my pillow cah your love is wicked
Cry me a river cah your love is wicked (your love is wicked)
Friends come around say your love is wicked
But the kisses weh you give, don't you know is wicked? (Your love is wicked)
Wait for your call cah your love is wicked
Cyaan' sleep at all cah your love is wicked (your love is wicked)
Pain in my heart cah your love is wicked
But the loving weh you give, don't you know is wicked?
Uh, okay yeah, yeah
Uh (uh), Brick and Lace inna di place
Yuh love is wicked, wicked, wicked
Kill 'em
Baby I loved you from the very start, yeah yeah (yeah)
Even though I knew that you would break my heart (yeah)
And I couldn't resist the way you touch me baby (yeah, uh)
Was I (was I) a fool (a fool)
To think I'd play nothing but two? (Two)…
When they got to the dance floor, she swung around and hooked her arms around his neck.
She started to move her hips with the tempo beat. Feeling the rhythm of the song, she swayed from side to side.
Kay allowed himself to be transported as the drum beat brought some nostalgia. Ragga was his thing!
Their movement matched with each beat of the song.
She was moving her hips in a rhythmic motion, winding and rolling her hips in a circular hula hoop manner. Her rotation of the hips matching every beat of the dancehall song.
So effortlessly and naturally, their dance was mesmerising, their bodies touching with rhythmic hip movement.
She allowed him to lead as he twirled her around. With her arms above her head she was swinging them back and forth as they did the female back-to-male front stance.
It was swift and slight, not so provocative and dirty.
They fitted so well together. Their sexy erotic dance captured the interest of few spectators who happened to witness the magic of two people so engrossed in each other without a care to the world.
They commanded the dance floor. Kay was a good dancer and Naledi was impressed. They were lost in the ‘riddim’
Alas! Not all the spectators were enjoying the dinner.
Gee had seen enough, with a scorn he left the hall. He knew it was time to execute the plan. He made a quick call and hung up. With a satisfied smile he went back into the hall.
