Chapter 13 - The hologram
The dear, old sign “Welcome to Woods Hole” marking the city boundaries was not there, replaced by an extravagant billboard with flashing lights showing a sexy model and advertising the amenities of the place: restaurants, bars, diners, hotels. No indication of the Centre, the MB Laboratory, for decades the real attraction and the main source of income of the place. After the tragic terrorist attack (still officially labelled as accident), and its toll of human lives, the whole area had been confiscated and declared off limits. A road was built with the specific purpose to bypass it, all the research activities have been moved elsewhere or dismissed and the large facility was now in a state of utter neglect.
