Codi ripped at the roof of the stable, peeling back the planks with his claws elongated. The undead were already inside, and blocking the doors. He could hear the shrieks of the horses, and knew they stood a good chance in their enclosed stalls. But not Lola. His little doe just slept in the open hay stall. He didn’t understand why or how this was happening, but he couldn’t lose Lola. “Codi! Stop!” Sorin’s hands clamped on his shoulders and pulled him back. “No! Lola! We have to get her!” Sorin spun him, bringing Codi face to face with untethered pity in his expression. “She is gone, boy. We both know it.” His eyes filled with tears. “No, she isn’t!” Codi slammed his hands into Sorin’s chest, pushing him away. He hadn’t been expecting it and stumbled back. Codi tore at the roof
