Mitch washed the final plate and handed it to Kitt for drying. The rest of the crew had headed out, sans Cain and Lucky. After taking Lucky out for toileting, Cain brought him back in, showed him a pan of water, and settled in with the little guy for a few minutes. He’d be heading out with them shortly as well.
Calix had returned the lawn chairs to where he’d found them earlier and left with a simple ‘thank you’. Mitch watched him go with a sense of regret. Not that he’d had time to chummy up to the guy. With the day came work in the kitchen along with more preparations for the upcoming flooding. Additional sandbags were set to arrive this morning.
