Chapter 11 Wearily, Mitch made his way to the cafeteria, completely drained after another day of sandbagging and moving a few more of the occupants into the common buildings and away from the flood threat. He glanced up at the sky, saw the numerous rainclouds, and cursed. If the downpours didn’t stop soon, even the tallest hill would be at risk. He’d seen firsthand some of the destruction and worried there’d be tons more before the water subsided. Days. Weeks. Maybe months. He had no idea how quickly this particular river would drain, but crossed his fingers it would be fast. Stepping into the cafeteria, he found cots and sleeping bags littering the floors.
