Charlotte’s POV
I was eating dinner when it happened.
That sudden, intense pain washed over me in an instant. One moment I was fine, and the next, I was doubled over in my chair, sending my drink spilling all over the table as I had gone to reach for it.
Nora shot to her feet on top of her chair, gasping.
“Daddy, help her!” she cried out.
Kieran didn’t hesitate. He rushed to my side and dropped to one knee beside me, although this time, unlike last night in the pantry, he didn’t touch me. His hand hovered by my shoulder, but he didn’t close the remaining distance.
“What happened?” he asked.
“I-I’m fine,” I said, but it was a lie. Even as I said the words, they came out strained, and another cry escaped my lips.
Nora hopped down from her chair. “She needs the doctor!”
“No!” I lifte
