Kiko stared at the eggs. Geese. Not one, two. A pair. A pair for him and Dom to raise together, a pair to bond. This seemed to mean much more than just a replacement bird for Mother. Kiko pushed that train of thought aside before it could fully form and checked to make sure Dom had set up the incubator properly.
“I didn’t f**k it up, did I?” asked Dom, sounding worried. Kiko shook his head.
“No, it’s fine.” He straightened, leaned back against Dom a little. “So this was to save me from Buddy.”
“Well, not save, but…” Dom sounded very awkward. “Look, I know how this looks, but I meant it to be a joke.”
