Chapter 1

Noelle’s POV “Get the f**k in here b***h!”  Oh God, what have I done now? I question mentally. Slowly walking to the kitchen to find him, I mentally scoured through my day trying to prepare myself for what I knew was going to happen.  I walked into the kitchen as he stood there clenching his fists tightly. I stood at the far end of the room and fake a bright smile. “What’s wrong honey?”  “Hmm… what’s wrong she asks?” He starts walking towards me slowly, menacingly. “Noelle, do you happen to know where your phone is?” “Of course, Jordan, it’s in our room inside my purse. Since we are both here, I didn’t worry about getting it out.” I started in a low voice with my head down looking at the floor, as he preferred. I wasn’t supposed to look him in the eye unless we were putting on a show of a happy couple in public. “Do you need me to go—-” SMACK He stopped me with a backhand on my face, knocking me to the ground where I realized I tasted blood. My lip is busted. Hopefully not bad enough for stitches. I mentally evaluate the injury.  “Did you really believe you would have the brains to hide him from me?” He is screaming now. I groan, I know this will turn out badly for me. “You have been messaging that mother fucker all day everyday! Looks like this has been going on for a while.”  “Jordan, honey, I haven’t said anything inappropriate and neither has he. He is my mechanic. We are discussing things my car needs to be fixed and when he can fit it in I swe—-” SMACK His ring caught my eye this time and now I can’t open it.  He stomped away mumbling under his breath and I took the chance while I had it. I crawled, afraid to stand and walk, to my bedroom. I searched my purse for my phone and came up empty. Finally, with one eye I could open, I looked up and caught a glimpse of my phone on the bed. He must have thrown it after looking through it.  I grabbed it and hit the familiar speed dial and just as I heard my mom’s voice, I heard Jordan coming down the hall. Trying to think quickly, I tossed the phone under the bed leaving the call connected, hoping with all my might that my mom would stay on long enough to hear and understand.  “Did I f*****g tell you to move, you stupid b***h? Why do you make me do this to you?” SMACK “I’ve told you time and time again to stop pushing my buttons!” KICK-PUNCH-KICK He walks out of the room toward the kitchen, stops, and comes back. “Look at me w***e, watch me end my f*****g life and know when I do the blood will be on your hands. Our boys will one day hate you for no longer having a father.” KICK “I said LOOK bitch.”  Not sure where the confidence, or stupidity depending on your view, came from, but I struggled for a minute or so and was finally able to look him in the eye and, with all the courage and voice, I could find within myself seeing the butcher knife he was holding to his own throat. I said “Would you mind doing that in the bathtub to make the cleanup easier?” He walked over and leaned down to look me in the eye, his eyes were dark and sinister. He laughed, stood up, and raised his foot. I felt his foot make contact, then felt my head hit the floor and everything went dark. Beep….Beep….Beep “What is that annoying noise?”  “Her heart rate is picking up and she seems to be coming around.” I heard an unknown voice say. “Where am I? Who is that talking?”  “Noelle, honey, can you hear me?” Mom? “Noelle, your grandparents, your father and I, and Jacob are all here. You just open your eyes when you are ready, baby.” My mom told me, but I couldn’t focus on her words after I heard his name… Jacob. What is he doing here? Why would he show up for me? Who called him? Realizing I would never know the answers to my questions unless I had the ability to ask, I began struggling to fight my eyes open. They hurt, they are heavy. I can’t get them open very far but they open just enough to see the faces of those crowded around.  My eyes landed on Jacob. He gave me a 1000-watt smile. “Hey beautiful, fancy meeting you here.” His deep sultry voice caused my cheeks to shine red.  “Noelle, I know this is a lot to ask you to do right now, baby, but we need to know what happened to you and those sweet officers outside your room need to know as well.” My mom said to me with tears in her eyes.  “Do I look that bad? I’ve been through Jordan’s beatings many times and hidden them well. What’s so different this time?” As if she heard my thoughts, my mom’s voice suddenly got very stern towards me.  “And you will tell them the truth, Noelle! No more lies about being clumsy. No one on Earth is that clumsy!”  “You will do as your mother told you Noelle!” My father finally spoke up. “You will tell these officers what that monster did to our baby girl.” He knew he was leaving me no room for argument. Not that I would argue this time. I am done and I want the monster out of my life for good!  “Okay, mom, please ask the officers to step in, all of you are welcome to stay so I don’t have to repeat the story.” My eyes focused on Jacob with the last part and he came to stand by my hospital bed. He hesitated momentarily then reached for my hand to hold it.  “Is this okay?” he asked “I just want you to feel safe and supported. I know by the look of you this won’t be an easy one to tell.”  “Yes, it’s more than okay. Thank you.” I told him, hoping I didn’t look too horrible in front of him.  Just as I finished my thoughts, two officers and two detectives walked into my room. “Miss Morgan,” the taller detective spoke up first, “we need your statement on the events of today leading to where we are now. Take your time, as we know this can be painful. Telling us your story is the only way you will be able to seek justice.”  I inhale a deep breath and point at the water beside my mother. She quickly handed it to me, and after drinking over half of it my throat finally felt well enough to speak clearly. I started trying to sit up and looked to Jacob for help. He assisted me with adjusting the bed and pillows so I could sit up comfortably.  “Officers, family, you may want to take a seat. My story is not a happy one, at least not anymore.”
