Noelle’s POV
It’s been a month and Jordan is nowhere to be found. Jacob was out of his mind about not finding him. They have checked with all the family, friends, and even out-of-state contacts I knew about, but he is just gone. Everyone claims they haven’t seen him since before the night I was in the hospital. He missed court for the Order of Protection and the assault charges I took out on him, now he has two warrants. Hopefully, the police will find him and this will all be over for a while. Everywhere I go, I look over my shoulder. Aiden finally came home, but even that’s been nerve-wracking making sure my boys stayed safe.
I’ve been doing books for the club for a month and I enjoy it honestly. The boys go with me to the compound most days, so it allows me to spend a lot of time with them that I missed out on before. Jacob and I have really gotten closer and my life seems to be coming together, at least on the outside. On the inside, the club is at war with surrounding MC’s, the feds are breathing down our throats and trying to pressure the women to talk, and personally, Jordan is causing stress to everyone.
Right now, Daniel is out with Jacob and Jax trying to work with a local MC to come to a resolution to come together and take down the other two rival MC’s. Things will calm down, I know, but in the meantime, this is all going to hell. Suddenly, the door to the office opens and my boys all jump up screaming, “Grandma!”
“Hey boys, how’s it going today? You guys hanging out with mommy today?”
They all nod to her and release the group hug and go back to coloring pictures for Jacob, who they now call dad.
“Hey Claudine, you look like there is bad news.”
“Noelle, step out into the garage with me for a moment, will you?”
“Sure. Boys, mommy will be right back. Ronnie,” I yelled to one of the prospects, “come sit with the boys for a few minutes.”
“Yes, ma’am. Hey Claudine. Hey boys! Wanna spend some time with Uncle Ronnie?”
They all jump up and run over to him as Claudine and I step outside into the garage area.
Claudine is Jacob’s mother and has assumed the position of grandma to my children and has accepted me as best could be expected without knowing for sure I can be trusted.
“Noelle, the guys called. s**t went badly at the meeting. The Demons MC showed up and crashed the meeting. Jax took a bullet in his leg. They are transporting back here and Jacob mentioned you have some training with this?”
“I do, yes. I can help, but I’ll need supplies. Do we have those on hand here?”
“Most medical supplies are on hand here, but anything we don’t have we can have brought from the hospital. We have a few connections there on payroll for this reason. Will you need extra hands for this?”
“I don’t know honestly. I won’t know until he is here and I can see what needs to be done. Until then, I will go get changed and washed up and be ready in the clubhouse. Can you ask Ronnie and the Angels to watch the boys?”
“Of course.”
Angels were basically groupies. They hang around helping out, making arrangements and dinners, grabbing drinks for the guys, and to meet “other needs” of the men. They want to eventually become ol’ ladies from what I can gather, though most never do. They were good girls and they did well with my kids and with Ronnie around I knew they would be safe.
I walked into the clubhouse and put on a plastic apron, washed my hands, grabbed medical supplies, and began to sanitize the large table in the conference room before covering it with a sheet. As soon as I laid the sheet down, the guys came in with Jax, who had a bullet in the top of his leg.
“Lay him in here guys.”
They took him over and lay him down.
“Jax, I need you to try to stay as still as possible for me, okay?”
“Yeah, darlin’. Do your worst.”
I set to work tying off the leg to try to cut down on blood loss and cut his pants up the leg to give me access to the wound. The bullet went through completely and didn’t seem to have hit anything major. One artery had to be clamped off and I will need to stitch it back together, but that seems to be the worst of the damage.
“Okay, good news, whoever the i***t who shot you wasn’t using hollow points. It's through and through with no major damage. One artery repair, some flushing, and stitches should get you fixed. Bad news last, you will be off your leg for at least two weeks and you will need antibiotics to ensure you don’t get an infection.”
“Do you have everything you need babe?”
“I just need a numbing agent. It would be too painful for him to get through without that.”
“Just do it. Get me a shirt and some whiskey.” Jax spoke up. “This needs to be done now, we don’t have time to wait. We need to get this done and get into a meeting to handle this s**t, so just do what you need to do, Noelle, I’ll handle it like a big boy.” He smiled.
The guys brought in the requested whiskey and a pillow instead of a shirt. I made all of them stay and asked for Claudine to come in too, as an extra set of hands for me. I made quick work and the guys helped with keeping him as still as possible. Thankfully, the artery repair was easy and soon we were cleaning up and getting Jax into his seat at the table with the leg propped up and I set an IV to start the antibiotics immediately. We would need a doctor to get the script for the oral antibiotic he would need, so Claudine and I took off to the Suffolk Memorial to get the doctor on the payroll to write it up for us.
“Claudine, I know you are still trying to trust me and I know how difficult that can be in this type of life, but I promise you I would never do anything that would hurt Jacob, my brother, or this club. This club has become my family and I would die to protect any of you. I appreciate the way you have stepped up to be a grandmother to my boys. I hope in time you can trust me and see me as a daughter.”
“Noelle, this life hasn’t provided me with a lot of trust to give out and acceptance isn’t something I give out. Baby, you have earned my trust and acceptance. You jumped into this thing with both feet and your eyes wide open. I respect that. I see that you love my son, even if you haven’t admitted it to yourself, and I see the effort you have put in with the whole club and they adore you.”
“So you and I? Are we good?”
“We are more than good, we are family. Family sticks together no matter what and I will always be in your corner.”
“Thank you.”
“I love you, Noelle. You are as much my daughter as Jacob is my son. Those three boys, those are my grandchildren, and I will always love and protect them as such.”
“I love you too, Claudine.”
Suddenly, I felt a weight lift off of me. I know now that I have the support of this entire family and organization. I have been through hell for 7 years and for the first time I feel safe. I feel at peace. Let Jordan come, we would be ready for him no matter what. Suddenly, I know I can face the world with these people behind me.
