Jacob’s POV
Walking into the hospital, I knew Noelle was pissed. Mike called very amused and told me she wanted me here in 10 minutes. That was an hour ago. I wanted to give Daniel time with his sister after he allowed his fit of anger to take over this morning. Daniel is not a small man and he tore the bar at the clubhouse apart within minutes. We all stood by and let him, knowing we would do that and maybe worse if it were our baby sister.
I stopped outside of Noelle’s room and hesitated with my hand on the door knob.
“Never seen the boss hesitate before,” Mike chuckled.
“There is a very angry 5 foot nothing girl in there ready to tear my head off. Bullets are easier.”
“She’s been laughing with Daniel for the last 20 minutes or so. Maybe he was able to calm her back down and she will take it easy on you.
“Doubtful. He’s her brother. I am not!”
Mike chuckled again then, without any warning, pushed the door in front of me open and announced I was there and he was taking off. I glared at him, he would pay for that later.
I walked in and immediately my breath caught in my throat at the sight of Noelle laughing. She seemed carefree and happy. I haven’t seen her this way in years and it’s now my favorite sight. Suddenly, she focused her eyes on me and Daniel, traitor that he is, stepped back away from the bed chuckling.
“Jacob, do you happen to own a watch or a cell phone perhaps?”
“I can explain.”
“Oh, good! Daniel, did you hear that? Jacob can explain!”
“Stop taunting Noelle. The poor man doesn’t need to suffer anymore, then he is going to have you in his life forever.” Daniel jumped in to save me.
“You boys are no fun at all! Jacob, thank you for giving me time with my brother, but now we have to talk.”
“I know we do. Before you make a decision, please just hear me out? I want to be with you, I want to make this work. I’ll raise your boys as my own, I’ll protect you always, and no one will ever love you the way I do. But, I also want you to know whatever choice you make, you and your children will have the protection of the club no matter what happens.”
I looked up at Noelle and saw that she had tears in her eyes. I instantly worried I had said something to hurt her, but I couldn’t think of what might have bothered her.
“What did I say wrong?” I asked, walking over, wanting to hold her to stop the tears. How can she have this effect on me? I am a cold-blooded killer. Known to never show mercy, but with her I can’t even raise my voice. I am in serious trouble with this one.
“You didn’t say anything wrong, Jacob. I’m just wondering what I have done to deserve kindness and love? I have pushed you, both of you, away for years in fear of the club, fear of you finding out what was happening, just fear; yet, here you both are, willing to protect my children and I with your lives.”
“We love you”
The second I said it, I saw her head jerk up and the room fell silent. She looked at me as if I had just told her I had found the fountain of youth. I knew I should have waited to say it but it was true. I loved this girl. I’ve loved her since she was a teenager learning to drive. I loved her as I watched her go off to prom, graduate, leave for college, and have babies.. Through it all, I loved her then and I knew I would always love this woman.
“Jacob,” she grabbed my hand and looked at me, “I want to try with you.”
I didn’t allow her to say anything else. I brought my lips down to hers and effectively ended the conversation. Forgetting Daniel in the room, I licked her lip with my tongue asking for entrance and she gladly obliged. The kiss became possessive and hungry, our tongues battling for dominance. I took my hand up and wrapped it in her hair, holding the back of her head to keep her in place. Our need for air and Daniel clearing his throat brought us back to reality and I backed away breathing heavily.
“So, sis, when did the doctor say we could spring you from this joint?”
“I actually haven’t seen her yet this morning. Daniel, can you go find out what’s going on? I want out of here. Jordan will eventually come looking for me and I don’t want to make it this easy to find me.”
“I’ll go find the doctor but keep all that nastiness on hold until we get you out of here.”
Throughout the conversation they were having, I was contemplating where we would take her and the kids when she was released from the hospital. It’s not safe to take her to her house, or even for her to ever go back there as long as Jordan was breathing. I know my house is big enough for all of us, but I’m not entirely sure she would be willing to stay with me. We definitely need a plan.
“Noelle, baby, where are you and the kids going to stay? You can’t go back to your house. Jordan will be looking for you there.”
“I know. I don’t know the answer to that yet. I have to find somewhere the kids will be comfortable because where they are now are all the places Jordan knows to look at. Aiden will be safe with his dad for a while. They took him out of state to visit some family, but Bryson and Chase can’t stay with Becca. I won’t have her life caught up in all this. I know Daniel isn’t going to let me leave the state and Jordan knows Daniel’s house and my parents' house.”
“I know it’s really soon, but my house has 6 bedrooms. There is plenty of room for the boys to each have a room and you can even have your own room if you are more comfortable. I’ll have the guys move all of the kids and your belongings today as quickly as possible and get all of you settled.”
“Well, it’s not ideal, but I’ve known you for years, Jacob. I trust you. I will stay in your room with you if that’s okay and I only have one more request.”
“Whatever you want, princess, it’s yours.”
“Can Becca have one of those rooms temporarily? I worry Jordan will try to hurt her to use her against me as she is my best friend. He knows I would lay my own life down for hers, and if he can’t get to my children he will use her.”
“Of course. I will have the guys go get her and the boys and help her bring whatever she needs to bring with her.”
“Send Daniel. Trust me. He has been after Becca since we were in grade school. As much as I don’t want her in this life either, she is going to be in it because of me, so we might as well see her and Daniel happy together rather than trying to force themselves to stay away from each other.”
We talked for a few more minutes about our plans and I called the guys to start packing up Noelle’s and the kids' things and get them moved to my house. Eventually, the door opened and Daniel stepped in with the doctor, who looked annoyed. Daniel must have pulled her away from something else to come to Noelle’s room, but she was on our payroll, so she knew when we called everything else had to be dropped.
“I hear someone is eager to go home?” Dr. Adelle looked at Noelle expectantly.
“I am. I need to be out of here and back to my boys if at all possible.”
“I am willing to discharge you, but I will need to be making house calls for you for the next few weeks. I know you are comfortable coming here with danger looming over you, so I can come to you. I just need the address and I will discharge you with meds. I know you are refusing pain meds but I am going to send you home with some just to be safe as well.”
“She will be at my house.” I spoke up.
“I see. Well, that works out as I will be there tomorrow anyway to do another check-up.”
Noelle looked over at me questioningly. I then had to explain she was the club’s personal doctor on call and we had a shooting a few nights ago in our warehouse and one of my guys took a bullet to the shoulder. He is recovering in my guest house at the moment. I wasn’t planning to have to explain all of this right now, but I knew Noelle was too smart to be one of the ol’ ladies that stayed in the dark. She would need all the gory details. I knew the next few days would be interesting as she learned all about The Fallen Angels MC.
